Assistant Research Professor and Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine, Indianapolis, IN - This clinical scientist position spends 50% of time in clinical care, providing overnight in house call in the University ICU. Schedule includes 5-7 nights per month and one ½ day Pulmonary Clinic every week. Spends 50% in basic science research working with established emphysema basic science investigators. Teaches and supervises medical students and Pulmonary fellows in clinic and in the research laboratory. Position includes a joint appointment in the clinical practice plan (Indiana University Health Physicians). Reqs: M.D., Board certified in Internal Medicine, Board eligible in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine and eligible for Indiana Medical License. Requires two years basic science training in emphysema research, including working with murine animal models and an understanding of sphingolipid metabolism. Must be able to care for critical care patients with high acuity illnesses, including liver failure. Must be able to independently (no fellows will be available) perform standard ICU procedures: intubation, central line placement, thoracentesis, chest tube placement, paracentesis, placement of right heart catheter. Position includes a joint appointment with the associated private practice group. Occasional travel required for CME/ conference attendance.
