Assistant Dean for Student Affairs The Assistant Dean works closely with the Associate Dean for Medical Student Affairs to manage the development, implementation and evaluation of student services and programming. The support services of the office include, but are not limited to, student records; financial aid; and extracurricular activities including service learning. The activities of the office are designed to enhance the experience for all students and to provide opportunities for a diverse student population across nine Centers for Medical Education. The Assistant Dean has day-to-day oversight of the operation and the staff responsible for the services defined above. The Assistant Dean reports to the Associate Dean of Medical Student Affairs. This is a full-time position. Responsibilities include: o Contribute to strategic planning related to student affairs and in consultations and through collaboration with the Associate Dean, prioritize initiatives to implement the strategic plan o Define outcomes related to student affairs programming and services, create a plan, and measure outcomes that demonstrate the effectiveness of the initiatives of the Office of Medical Student Affairs o Manage and oversee the budgets of the Office. Develop a plan for resource allocation that aligns with the mission of the office, its divisions and the institution o Manage and allocate the space of the IU School of Medicine Daly Student Center, including collaborative and informal learning spaces o Oversee and manage the programs and staff within the Office responsible for student records, financial aid, and extracurricular programs including medical student learning o Supervise the leaders of the programs/services described above o Develop and oversee migration to a new and integrated student database management system o Oversee processes and procedures related to maintenance of institutional affiliation agreements, course registration, and graduate credentialing o Direct evaluation and assessment of the services and programs of the Office including data collection, analysis, and report generation o Participate in the management and implementation of accreditation standards. o Collaborate with other educational affairs units for programming and seamless service delivery, including but not limited to the Office of Undergraduate Medical Education, the Office of Admissions, and the nine regional Centers of Medical Education o Use a scholarly approach in the development and evaluation of programs o Disseminate innovations and successes of the office through the creation of scholarly publications and presentations Qualifications Master's degree + 4-6 years progressive experience in student affairs required. Doctoral degree in higher education or related field strongly preferred. Candidates who are degree eligible (ABD) will be considered. The Assistant Dean should be an empowering manager who brings experience in managing complex projects and in the oversight and management of personnel. Effective candidates will have broad knowledge of student development theory, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and be able to create and support a student-centered approach to all activities in the office.
