Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) is conducting a national search for a Director of a new Neurodevelopmental Disorders Center (NDBD). This new Center will serve the State of Indiana and will incorporate multiple clinical disciplines including developmental pediatrics, child development specialists, pediatric neurology, pediatric psychiatry and transitional care for adolescents and young adults with special health care needs. It will also help coordinate the implementation of translational science and basic science to better understand and improve the care of children with these disorders. This new Center is being formed as a result of extensive analysis conducted by over 60 faculty and staff with the determination that the establishment of a single entity, the NDBD Center, will help us better serve our patients and provide better health, better health care and lower costs for children with neurodevelopmental needs. The mission of the NBDB Center is to provide accessible, seamless and evidence based, family-centered services for children with neurodevelopmental and behavioral disorders through innovative care, training, research, and education that supports Indiana's children, families, community partners and care providers. Due to large increases in the number of children with autism and children who survive catastrophic illnesses such as prematurity and cancer, we have encountered a backlog of patients in our current clinical settings and determined that our current model of care is often redundant and difficult to access. Work groups of cross-sectional teams representative of all of these clinics and subspecialties have been working over the last 6 months to develop initial, coordinated, models of care for implementation. We are now ready to move forward with the establishment of the new Center. The Director of the NBDB Center must have an area of clinical excellence relevant to neurodevelopmental and behavioral disorders, the leadership skills to coordinate with multiple disciplines, and the ability to move research and training to the next pinnacle. The Director will provide the direction, focus, and motivation for the development of an innovative program of care that includes the implementation of science and systems and must have the skills necessary to work with a broad range of professionals, staff and families. The director of the NDBD will work with the Chair of the Department of Pediatrics and Section leaders in developmental pediatrics, pediatric neurology and child psychiatry to streamline, organize and ensure the quality and timeliness of provided services. The NDBD director will support and help direct current efforts to standardize assessment, diagnoses and treatment protocols and to monitor system changes. The NDBD director will also be responsible for building external funding through grants, contracts and private donations. A vision for incorporation of basic science and translational medicine is also a requirement for the position with the goal of the NBDB Center being recognized as a national leader in the care and treatment of neurodevelopmental and behavioral disorders. The NBDB will act in synergy with IUSM's Wells Center for Pediatric Research, the Starke Neurosciences Institute, and our nationally recognized Children's Health Services Research Section. Resources available to promote the startup of this Center include funds from the Department of Pediatrics, funds from a $60 million gift to Indiana University School of Medicine to recruit physician-scientists and $10 million from IU Health Hospitals for neurodevelopmental research. Qualified candidates will have a M.D. and or M.D./ PhD and should send CV to K. Matteson, 705 Riley Hospital Drive, RI 5900, Indianapolis, IN 46202. This position will also require participation in the University Pediatrics Associates (UPA) practice plan. Indiana University is a Affirmative Action/ Equal Opportunity Institution M/F/D
