THE PURDUE SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY, IUPUI is seeking a dynamic leader for the position of Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology for a term beginning on or about July 1, 2010. The Purdue School of Engineering and Technology is located on the campus of Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) in downtown Indianapolis, the state's cultural, governmental, and financial center. Indianapolis is the twelfth largest city in the country with a metropolitan population of over one and a half million. Indianapolis is considered to be one of America's most livable urban centers and a burgeoning center for R&D. The campus' location within blocks of downtown Indianapolis facilitates advancement of research and teaching while presenting unique opportunities for internships, partnerships, community engagement, and more. With four professional sports teams, several world class museums, robust ethnic cuisine and a vibrant downtown Indianapolis is the fastest growing major metropolitan area in the Midwest. IUPUI is Indiana's premier urban research university and a core campus of Indiana University. It is a unique and highly successful forty-year old joint venture between Indiana University and Purdue University. It enrolls nearly 30,000 students representing all 50 states and 122 countries. In 2004, IUPUI set a record for fundraising at a public university in Indiana by raising over $1 billion. In the most recent academic year, IUPUI received over $302 million in research dollars. IUPUI consists of twenty schools and academic units including the Purdue School of Science, as well as the Indiana University's Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Informatics, Business, Law, and Liberal Arts. The School of Engineering and Technology has programs of study leading to Purdue University degrees at the bachelors, masters, and doctoral levels. It also has a limited number of programs leading to Indiana University degrees. The Ph.D. programs are conducted jointly with corresponding Schools at Purdue University, West Lafayette. The Purdue School of Engineering and Technology is the largest undergraduate degree granting school at IUPUI with nearly 2500 students enrolled. Programs in computer, electrical, mechanical, biomedical, motorsports and interdisciplinary engineering complement our technology programs in electrical and computer engineering technology, civil engineering technology, computer graphics technology, computer and information technology, architectural technology, biomedical engineering technology, mechanical engineering technology, construction engineering management technology, music and arts technology, interior design technology, and organizational leadership and supervision. The School has seven academic departments and is the home to three Signature Centers including the Richard G. Lugar Center for Renewable Energy, Biomechanics and Biomaterials Research Center and the Transportation Active Safety Institute. The Dean serves as the chief academic and administrative officer for the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology. Responsibilities include shaping and articulating a vision for the school, enhancing the school's national reputation in education, funded research, and scholarship, and managing the school's diverse curriculum, personnel matters, and fiscal affairs. The Dean will work closely with industry partners and utilize them to increase research and development, consult on academic excellence, and to help sponsor school projects and ventures. As a member of IUPUI's senior administrative team, the Dean reports to the IUPUI Chancellor and works closely with other deans and executive officers on behalf of the university as a whole. Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. or equivalent in a field encompassed by the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology, Distinguished record of accomplishments or credentials that merits appointment at the rank of tenured full professor in the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology, IUPUI, Demonstrated commitment to academic excellence at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, Distinguished record of service and administrative accomplishments, including the recruiting and retention of diverse and high-performing human resources. Desired qualifications include: Ability to articulate a clear vision for the future of engineering education and research, and the strategies needed to take the School to the next level of excellence, Commitment to the mission of a major urban research university, Evidence of research and scholarly achievements at national and international levels, e.g. a member of the National Academy of Engineering,
