Accelerated BSN Class of August 2013 and Traditional BSN Class of December 2014 Welcomed to IUSON

On Monday, January 9th, the IU School of Nursing welcomed two new groups of BSN students - the Accelerated BSN Class of 2013 and the Traditional BSN Class of December 2014. The event, held at the IUPUI Campus Center, featured remarks by Executive Associate Dean Judith A. Halstead and Dean Marion E. Broome. Franciscan St. Francis Health generously sponsored the evening and India Owens, Director of Emergency Services at Franciscan Alliance and an IUSON alumnus, addressed the students.

IUSON welcomed 91 traditional BSN students and 40 accelerated BSN students.

 

Everyone is excited to begin their journey as a nursing student.

The School's red scrubs are well recognized across campus. The students wear them proudly.

 

BSN students invited loved ones to attend and celebrate with them.

Over 350 people attended the induction ceremony (including the students themselves).

 

Class officers from the BSN Class of May 2014 led the way into the ceremony.

Over the coming months and years, these students will rely on each other for support, advice and friendship.

Dean Broome spoke to the students about professionalism and what it means to be a professional nurse. It begins with a positive attitude, which these students clearly display.

The students recited the IU School of Nursing professional pledge as a group. It was very moving to see and hear them all pledge together.

The tea lights that the students held represent the lamp that Florence Nightingale held, a long-standing, traditional symbol of nursing.
