Thank you for visiting our site!
This site is designed to measure the usability and image quality of several types of streaming video technologies in an attempt to find an ideal one. This independent study is not commissioned or funded by any company. Your participation in this test is totally voluntary. We highly appreciate your time and your input. If you have any questions before, during or after the test, you are welcome to contact either of the authors:
Dr. Edgar Huang (ehuang@iupui.edu, 317-278-4108)
Clifford Marsiglio (ccmarsig@iupui.edu, 317-274-2897)
We do not ask for any personal information, but if you'd like to receive notification about the survey results, you may leave your email address after your survey is completed. We will contact you as soon as the results are in! We expect to complete the study within two months.
To participate in this survey, you need a broadband connection.
It is estimated that this survey will take 10 minutes. We have two videos encoded for five streaming technologies for you to watch, and with each of these videos, we have four very short questions. The shorter video of the two lasts 30 seconds, and the longer one lasts 10 minutes. You only need to linger on the longer one for around two minutes unless you wish to watch all of it. The videos will appear to repeat, but again they are not the same — they are all encoded differently and you should approach each video as a new one.
Following each video, you will be asked to rate four statements about the video you have just watched. Try to judge each video independently. Concentrate on the technical aspects — we are asking about how well it played, not about its content. Don't worry — this isn't a quiz: there are no right answers. Simply respond to the best of your ability.
Were you able to watch the video without having to do anything?
How many seconds did you have to wait before the video started? (Get ready to count the time in your mind every time after you click the link on the bottom of each page.)
Did you see rebuffering within two minutes for this movie?
How do you perceive the image quality of the video? For instance, is it blurry, fuzzy or is it very clear?
