DivX High-definition Streaming Video Tutorial
In this tutorial, the terms "movie" and "video" are equivalent.
ENCODING
1. Importing
The most professional encoder for encoding DivX video is DivX Converter. You can download it from the Divx Web site. The free version does not allow customization. So, you have to pay $19.99 to buy the Pro version. Launch DivX Converter Pro either from a PC or a Mac. Drag your video from a folder on Desktop into the converter. You can batch-process multiple videos by dragging more videos to the converter. For now, we need only one. In order to achieve the best encoding result, always try to encode the original video output in AVI or MOV format with a large file size.
2. Configuring
Click View List. Check HTML so that an HTML page will be exported when encoding is done. On the bottom, click Custom to navigate to the Custom profile, which is not available in the free version. Click Convert. For DivX Certified Profile, choose High Def Profile. Under Settings, check Advanced Settings and click it. For the Video tab content, nothing needs to be changed unless you have an 1080i video, which you need to deinterlace. Under Codec, make sure 2-pass is chosen for Encode mode. We are going to encode our video at the 4000Kbps level, so, type 4000 for Average bitrate. Under the Audio tab, keep the default 128Kbps bit rate. OK. OK again to encode.
WEB AUTHORING
No separate Web authoring is needed since the exporting process generates an HTML page already. You can either use that page independently or insert the div in another page.
IMPLEMENTING TO SERVER
DivX does not need a separate streaming server. Both the exported Divx video and the HTML file should be FTPed to a Web server. Test out the video and it should work properly. To watch the video in the full-screen mode, double-click the video. To come back to the normal size, press Esc.
