Dr. Scott A. Shapiro is the Robert L. Campbell Professor of Neurological Surgery at the Indiana University School of Medicine. He is also the Chief of Neurosurgery at Wishard Memorial Hospital and Resident Director. Dr. Shapiro's areas of specialization include neurosurgical trauma, spinal surgery including spinal instrumentation, cranial vascular neurosurgery, tumors and peripheral nerve surgery. Dr. Shapiro's work in vascular neurosurgery has led to Indiana University Medical Center's inclusion in national studies by pharmaceutical companies testing the efficacy of new drugs and therapies for brain tumors.
Dr. Shapiro received his baccalaureate degree from the University of Illinois and medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine. He served a general surgical internship and completed his neurosurgical residency at the Indiana University Medical Center (IUMC). Upon completion of his residency, Dr. Shapiro joined the Neurological Surgery faculty at the IUMC. He is the past president of the Neurosurgical Society of Indiana. His memberships include the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, the Association of Academic Surgery, the Joint Section on Cerebrovascular Surgery, the Joint Section on Spine and Peripheral Nerve Surgery, the Joint Section on Brain Tumors and the Joint Section on Neurotrauma.
A native of Indianapolis, Dr. Shaprio is married and has three children.
