Indiana University Medical Center For Skull Base Surgery
REFERRING A PATIENT
Physicians interested in obtaining consultation regarding potential patients
with skull base pathology problems should call (317) 278-SKUL or contact
one of the members of the skull base center directly. Names are provided
within the Co-Directors selection below. Prompt consultation in the form of
a direct encounter with the patient
or review of diagnostic studies is available. In particular, second opinions
as regards to surgery or adjuvant therapy, are easily obtained. Referring
physicians are always included as an important member of the team to provide
continuity of care. When a patient is referred, one of the members will
routinely contact the referring physician to obtain additional information
about the patient and update them regarding their evaluation.
After the initial evaluation, a full report detailing the diagnosis and
treatment recommendation(s) are sent to the referring practitioner as well
as to others who care for the patient. In addition, any therapy or further
care delivered through the center is communicated to the patient's referring
physician(s). If surgery is deemed appropriate, the surgical options including
risk, benefits, the extent of reconstruction of complex operative wounds,
and post-operative rehabilitation would also be specifically discussed.
