NASA President wins "Outstanding Student Female Leader"!
March 28, 2007
Folks,
In recognition of her outstanding leadership and hard work, Charmayne Champion-Shaw
"Charli," today was named "Outstanding Female Student Leader" here on the
IUPUI campus. Out of the thousands of women on campus, and more than thirty
nominees, Charli was named one of three recipients of the award today in
a ceremony in front of faculty, staff and students. Charli has been in the
forefront as a student leader at the Undergraduate Student Government and
a powerful student advocate for the establishment of a Multi-Cultural Student
Center. She is also the President of the Native American Student Alliance
and a principal founder of I-NASHEN (Indiana Native American Scholars in
Higher Education Network) which is already reaching beyond the borders of
the state of Indiana. Charli has been active with the development of policies
in higher education with the Native American Indian Commission and is a
wife, mother, and friend to every person she meets. Charli is a citizen
of the Southern Cheyenne Nation of Oklahoma and is the first Native American
woman to win this award and also graduates this May with a 4.0 Grade Point
Average. Please give your heartfelt congratulations.
