News

Archaeological discoveries and  new interpretations, as well as political events related to North American prehistory are relatively common. When you spot a story, especially on line, e-mail it or a link to it to Dr. Zimmerman for posting here. Each time you submit a story or relevant link, you’ll get 1 (one) extra credit point.

The Archaeology Channel has a wide range of free streaming videos, with many of them from North America. There is some terrific material here, and there are lists of the videos organized in several ways, including a clickable map. There are also several video and audio interviews with archaeologists.

Monk's Mound (in the background) is the largest Pre-Columbian earthwork in America north of Mesoamerica. Located at the Cahokia Mounds UNESCO World Heritage Site near Collinsville, Illinois, its size was calculated in 1988 as about 100 feet (30 meters) high, 955 feet (291 meters) long including the access ramp at the southern end, and 775 feet (236 meters) wide.
