Monumental Architecture      Laboratory 4

Monuments seem to be a major component of urban and state-level cultures. Some are related to sacred landscapes, but many edify the political ideology.

Your task in this brief laboratory is to analyze the monumental architecture in the downtown area, starting at Monument Circle and moving north (go no farther than North Street, but most are most are in the first couple of blocks north).

Project:

In a 3-5 page paper, map and discuss the major monuments north of Monument Circle. What do most of them memorialize? Why do you think these is such a size difference in these monuments?
