The event featured appearances by several of the medical schools highest Deans, including Dean Bogdewic's excellent session entitled "The Core Principles of Leadership" where he outlined elements necessary for anyone who aspires to be a leader. Dean Brater lended his Vision of the Future of IUSM and role of the ideal student leader would take on in helping to fulfill this vision. Dean Leapman gave an entertaining talk on the importance of the Admissions process and its role in shaping the culture of the institution. Asst. Dean Treadwell presented information critical to understanding the need for greater diversity and leadership development to address health care disparities. Dr. Richard Gunderman, a highly motivational Pediatric Radiologist, ended the day with a talk entitled "Lessons of a Great Leader". Students left Dr. Gunderman's talk invigorated and ready to make a difference during their short four years here. The afternoon also involved small group breakout sessions during lunchtime where students brainstormed and worked together to define areas for improvement in the medical educational process during all four years. Several members of the faculty and administratrion, including paula Wales, Mary Alice Bell, Dr. Robert Schloemer, Dr. Richard Haak and Dr. Richard Gunderman, were gracious enough to lend their expertise and facilitate the sessions. The Leadership Day Coordinators, which included Prashant patel, Michael Veronesi, Melissa Spur, Joanna Fields and Greg nadolski, would like to thank all of the speakers, small group facilitators as well as the many sponsors including the Dean's Office, individual benefactors and several clinical departments.
