Peer Advisor Program: Eligibility & Selection

Two students will be selected by the MSC to become Peer Advisor Program Chairs.

Candidates eligible to become Peer Advisor Program Chairs are students currently in their first year of medical school. The term for the LCSR member begins in late spring of the current year and runs until the end of the second Medical School year.

Two candidates are chosen by the interview steering committee during Interview Day and presented by way of written recommendations to the MSC President and Vice-President. The President and Vice-President take the recommendations of the Interview Steering Committee into close consideration but assess all of the candidates for the position.

Two candidates will be recommended by the President and Vice-President to the MSC. A third candidate will be recommended as an alternate in the rare event that a chosen candidate becomes delinquent at the position or can no longer fulfill its responsibilities for any reason.

SCTF - Eligibility and Member Selection

  • Membership on the Student-Computer Task Force is available to all students in all School of Medicine class years.
  • Applicants are encouraged to have a working knowledge of computers and educational technology, though these are not requirements for appointment to the Student-Computer Task Force.
  • Each year, two students are recommended to the Dean for appointment to the Student-Computer Task Force by the Medical Student Council.  In most cases, both students are appointed by the Dean to serve on the Task Force.  Occasionally, additional members are recommended to the Dean or are appointed to the SCTF, based on recommendations of staff and faculty serving on the committee.
  • Appointment to the SCTF shall be for a minimum of 2 years.  Should a student wish to continue on the Task Force after 2 years, it is up to to the other Task Force members to decide whether or not a student shall continue their appointment for additional time.

Spring Formal Committee: Eligibility & Selection

Two students will be selected by the MSC to become the Spring Formal Committee Chairs.

Candidates eligible to become Spring Formal Committee Chairs can be students from any year of medical school. The term of the SFC Chair begins in late spring of the current year and runs until the new chirs for the following year are ready to assume the position.

Two candidates are chosen by the interview steering committee during Interview Day and presented by way of written recommendations to the MSC President and Vice-President. The President and Vice-President take the recommendations of the Interview Steering Committee into close consideration but assess all of the candidates for the position.

Two candidates will be recommended by the President and Vice-President to the MSC for selection.

Student Alumni Ambassadors: Eligibility & Selection

Two students will be selected by the MSC to serve as Student Alumni Ambassadors.

Candidates eligible to become the SAAs can be from any medical year and must be in good academic standing. The term for the SAA runs from late spring of the current year until late in the spring of the folowing year.

Two candidates are chosen by the interview steering committee during Interview Day and presented by way of written recommendations to the MSC President and Vice-President. The President and Vice-President take the recommendations of the Interview Steering Committee into close consideration but assess all of the candidates for the position.

One candidate will be recommended by the President and Vice-President to the MSC. A third candidate will be recommended as an alternate in the rare event that a chosen candidate becomes delinquent at the position or can no longer fulfill its responsibilities for any reason.

Student Curriculum Liaison Committee: Eligibility and Selection

Three students will be selected by the MSC to become members of the SCLC.

Student Promotions Committee - Eligibility and Member Selection

  • Third-year students who would like to be considered for the Committee must first apply through Interview Day.  Subsequently, the students will be submitted to the Office for Mentoring and Student Development and the Dean's Office.
  • Students recommended for the committee must be in the upper half of their class, academically, as determined by the Medical Student Affairs office.
  • Students who interview for and are recommended for the committee must be a member of the current third-year (junior) medical school class.
  • Students are interviewed by current members of the Student Promotions Committee.  Recommendations are made by these members to the Medical Student Council, which makes recommendations to the Dean of the School of Medicine.  The Dean makes the final decision regarding appointment of students to the Student Promotions Committee.

Student Research Committee: Eligibility and Selection

One student will be selected by the dean to sit on the Student Research Committee.

Candidates eligible to become members of the SRC can be from any year and who are in good academic standing. The chosen candidate will sit on the committee starting in late spring until late in the spring of the following year.

Two candidates are chosen by the interview steering committee during Interview Day and presented by way of written recommendations to the MSC President and Vice-President. The President and Vice-President take the recommendations of the Interview Steering Committee into close consideration but assess all of the candidates for the position.

One candidate will be recommended by the President and Vice-President to the dean. A second candidate will be recommended as an alternate in the rare event that the chosen candidate becomes delinquent at his/her position or can no longer fulfill his/her responsibilities for any reason.

Teacher-Learner Advocacy Committee: Eligibility and Selection

  • New membership of the Teacher-Learner Advocacy Committee is appointed by the Dean of the School of Medicine upon recommendations made by the officers and membership of the Medical Student Council.
  • Each spring, four students are appointed by the Dean of the School of Medicine to serve on the committee.
  • Students may resign from the committee early if they so choose, but are discouraged from doing so without cause.
  • Students may also be asked to step down from their position on the committee prematurely due to academic probation, ethics or honor code violations, or other criteria to be determined by the committee.

Used Book Sale Coordinator: Eligibility and Selection

One to two students will be selected by the MSC to become the Used Book Sale Coordinator.

Candidates eligible to become the Used Book Sale Coordinator can be from any year of medical school. The term of the UBS Coordinator(s) begins in late spring of the current year and runs until the new coordinator(s) for the following year is/are ready to assume the position.

Two candidates are chosen by the interview steering committee during Interview Day and presented by way of written recommendations to the MSC President and Vice-President. The President and Vice-President take the recommendations of the Interview Steering Committee into close consideration but assess all of the candidates for the position.

Two candidates will be recommended by the President and Vice-President to the MSC. A third candidate will be recommended as an alternate in the rare event that a chosen candidate becomes delinquent at the position or can no longer fulfill its responsibilities for any reason.

Volunteer Services Coordinators: Eligibility and Selection

One to three students will be selected by the Medical Student Council each year to become Volunteer Services Coordinators.

Candidates eligible to become the Volunteer Services Coordinators can be from any year of medical school. The term of the Volunteer Services Coordinator begins in late spring of the current year and runs until a position becomes vacant.

One to Three candidates are chosen by the interview steering committee during Interview Day and presented by way of written recommendations to the MSC President and Vice-President. The President and Vice-President take the recommendations of the Interview Steering Committee into close consideration but assess all of the candidates for the position.

One to three candidates will be recommended by the President and Vice-President to the Medical Student Council voting members.  An additional candidate will be recommended as an alternate in the rare event that a chosen candidate becomes delinquent at the position or can no longer fulfill the responsibilities of the position for any reason.
