Eligibility and Selection of Students to Serve on the Academic Standards Committee

Students will be selected by the dean to sit on each Academic Standards Committee.
Candidates eligible to become members of the Academic Standards Committee are those students who are in good academic standing. The candidates selected to sit on the Academic Standards Committee will be a full member of the committee starting the spring after applying through the spring of the following year.
Candidates are interviewed and preference by the interview steering committee during Interview Day and presented by way of written recommendations to the Medical Student Council President and Vice-President. The President and Vice-President carefully consider the recommendations of the interview steering committee and assess the characteristics of all candidates for the position prior to making a recommendation for committee appointment to the Dean of the School of Medicine.
Preferred candidates will be recommended for each committee by the President and Vice-President to the Dean. Alternate candidates will also be recommended in the rare event that a chosen candidate is unable to fulfill his or her responsibilities on the committee for any reason.

Admissions Ambassadors Coordinators: Eligibility and Selection

The number of students that will be selected by the MSC to become the Admissions Ambassador Co-Coordinators varies between two to three students per year. Each term lasts fourteen months, though terms may be extended should students wish to continue on the committee, with MSC approval.

Students who are currently in their second year of medical school and are in good academic standing may apply to become members of the Admissions Ambassadors. The term runs from spring of the student's second year until the following summer.

The most qualified candidates are chosen by the interview steering committee during Interview Day are presented as written recommendations to the MSC President and Vice-President. The President and Vice-President assess the candidacy of all applicants for the position and take the recommendations of the Interview Steering Committee into close consideration.

The top two or three candidates will be recommended by the President and Vice-President for the approval by the MSC. An additional candidate will be recommended as an alternate in the rare event that a chosen candidate becomes delinquent at the position or can no longer fulfill the responsibilities for any reason.

Admissions Committee - Eligibility and Selection

Selection of Student Members of the Admissions Committee

Two students will be selected by the dean to sit on the Admissions Committee.

Candidates to become members of the Admissions Committee must be fourth year medical students in good standing. The most highly regarded candidates are passionate about Indiana University School of Medicine, intend to remain in Indianapolis for the majority of their fourth year rotations, will miss very few Admissions Committee meetings, and demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the many facets of the medical school in regards to its curriculum, culture and vision.

Four recommendations are written by the student interview steering committee during Interview Day. These recommendations are presented to the President and Vice President of the Medical Student Council and to the Executive Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Professional Development.

The Executive Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Professional Development solicits input on the candidacy of the four recommended students from the Chair of the Admissions Committee, currently the Executive Associate Dean for Educational Affairs.

In order to provide feedback, the Chair of the Admissions Committee conducts a second round of interviews on the four candidates and, along with the Executive Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs and Professional Development, makes the final decision on the selection of two students to sit on the Admissions Committee.

CC - Steering Committee - Eligibility and Selection

Candidates eligible to become members of the CCSC are those students currently in their first or second year and who are in good academic standing. The chosen candidate(s) will sit on the committee starting in late spring of his/her third year until late in the following spring as a fourth year.

Multiple candidates are chosen by the interview steering committee during Interview Day and presented by way of written recommendations to the MSC President and Vice-President. The President and Vice-President take the recommendations of the Interview Steering Committee into close consideration but assess all of the candidates for the position.

Candidate(s) will be recommended by the President and Vice-President to the dean. Additional candidate(s) will be recommended as alternate(s) in the rare event that the chosen candidate becomes delinquent at his/her position or can no longer fulfill his/her responsibilities for any reason.

Competency Teams Liasons - Eligibility and Selection

Any student in good standing and with an solid understanding of the manner in which the Competencies and Competency Teams function within the School of Medicine are eligible to apply.

Curriculum Council - Clinical Component Eligibility

Two students will be selected by the dean to sit on the Curriculum Council Clinical Component.

Candidates eligible to become members of the CCCC are those students currently in their third year and who are in good academic standing. The chosen candidates will sit on the committee starting in late spring of their third year until late in the following spring as fourth years.

Three candidates are chosen by the interview steering committee during Interview Day and presented by way of written recommendations to the MSC President and Vice-President. The President and Vice-President take the recommendations of the Interview Steering Committee into close consideration but assess all of the candidates for the position.

Two candidates will be recommended by the President and Vice-President to the dean. A third candidate will be recommended as an alternate in the rare event that one of the two chosen candidates become delinquent at his/her position or can no longer fulfill his/her responsibilities for any reason.

Curriculum Council Basic Science Component - Eligibility and Member Selection

Four total students will be selected by the dean to sit on the Curriculum Council Basic Science Component.

Candidates eligible to become members of the CCBS are those students currently in their first or second year (two of each will be selected) and who are in good academic standing. The chosen candidates will sit on the committee starting in late spring of their appointed year until late in the following spring.

The candidates are chosen by the interview steering committee during Interview Day and presented by way of written recommendations to the MSC President and Vice-President. The President and Vice-President take the recommendations of the Interview Steering Committee into close consideration but assess all of the candidates for the position.

Four candidates (two MS1 and two MS2) will be recommended by the President and Vice-President to the dean. A fifth candidate will be recommended as an alternate in the rare event that one of the four chosen candidates become delinquent at his/her position or can no longer fulfill his/her responsibilities for any reason.

GLIC Committee Eligibility & Member Selection

Any MSIII student is eligible. Current members are in the process of formalizing the selection process.

Graduate and Professional Student Government: Eligibility and Selection

One student will be selected by the Medical Student Council to serve as GPSG Liaisons every other year.

Candidates eligible to become a GPSG representatives must be second year medical students and must be in good academic standing. The term for the GPSG Liaison begins in late spring of the current year and lasts for two years.

One or two candidates are chosen by the interview steering committee during Interview Day and presented by way of written recommendations to the MSC President and Vice-President. The President and Vice-President take the recommendations of the Interview Steering Committee into close consideration but assess all of the candidates for the position.

One or two candidates will be recommended by the President and Vice-President to the MSC. A second (or third) candidate will be recommended as an alternate in the rare event that a chosen candidate becomes delinquent at the position or can no longer fulfill its responsibilities for any reason.

OSR - Eligibility and Member Selection

The deans of the medical school appoint students to the position of OSR. Interested students must complete an application (which can be found on the MSC website) and participate in an interview with the medical student council (MSC) on MSC Interview Day in the spring.  Interviews are offered to all highly interested applicants (those who rank interest in becoming an OSR member as first or second on their application), and offered to other students on an application-by-application basis.

Each year, there is a representative from the second (MSII), third (MSIII), and fourth (MSIV) classes, for a total of three OSR reps at all times. The position is held by each student for a total of three years. Those interested in a position should apply in the spring before the start of the next academic year.
