Non-Voting Committee Responsibilities

Peer Advisor Program: Responsibilities

The Peer Advisor Program Chairs shall:

  1. coordinate orientation activities, including the Activities Fair.
  2. implement Peer Advisor related activities throughout the year,
  3. organize fund-raising events
  4. maintain a roster of program members.
  5. attend all monthly MSC meetings.

SCTF - Student Responsibilities

  • Students shall attend all meetings of the Student Computer Task Force.
  • Students shall act as liaisons between the student population and the staff / faculty membership of the SCTF.
  • Students will be asked to represent the opinions, goals, and ideas of the student population in technology-related issues.
  • Students are each granted one vote on the SCTF, equivalent in value to that of a staff or faculty member's vote.
  • Students are encouraged to have a working knowledge of current technologies available for use on campus and the devices and software currently utilized by students within the School of Medicine.  Technical knowledge is not an absolute requirement of the position, but may improve a student's chance of being recommended for the committee following their interview.
  • Membership in the Student Computer Task Force involves the distribution of the School of Medicine's student technology funds, so a working knowledge of finance may be valuable.
  • Student members are encouraged to "think outside the box" and to bring novel ideas to the committee for improvement of technology-related resources for student use within the School of Medicine.

Spring Formal Committee: Responsibilities

The Spring Formal Committee Co-chairs will coordinate and organize the spring formal currently known as the St. Vitus Dance. The Co-Chairs are also responsible for keeping MSC and the student body updated on issues relevant to the Spring Formal.

Student Alumni Ambassadors: Responsibilities

  1. Serve as a liaison between the IU Alumni Association and the Medical Student Council in order to further strengthen the relationship between the two entities.
  2. Therefore, the SAA is present at the monthly Medical Student Council meetings and the Medical Alumni Council meetings.
  3. Work through student leaders to keep students informed about the IU Alumni Association and to recruit volunteers for projects and events.
  4. Keep the IU Medical Alumni Council informed about relevant student projects, activities, needs and priorities and advise that group on students' perspectives.
  5. Recruit and orient students to meet with alumni at the annual alumni Reunion.

Student Curriculum Liaison Committee: Student Responsibilities

The Liaison Committee representatives will be responsible for the interests of the student bod

Student Promotions Committee - Member Responsibilities

  • Student members are considered full, voting members of the SPC, and shall participate in all required Student Promotions Committee meetings.
  • Due to the nature of the Student Promotions Committee, meetings are held in private.  Discussion of the content of SPC meetings outside the meeting is prohibited; student members are expected to respect the privacy of the committee and the students it evaluates.
  • As members of the committee, students are expected to provide a positive example for their classmates by striving to compete at the highest level, academically, and to maintain their own good standing within the School of Medicine.
  • A student may be dismissed from the Student Promotions Committee if their standing within the School of Medicine is brought into question due to academic performance or other reasons.
  • Student members shall evaluate each case brought before the committee to the best of their ability in order to provide an unbiased, fair decision relating to a student's standing within the School of Medicine.
  • Student members shall evaluate student performance along with the rest of the committee on a case-by-case basis.  Student members are expected to excuse themselves from any vote in which their impartiality is not guaranteed.

Student Research Committee: Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of a student member of the SRC is to serve as a liaison between the Medical Student Council and the SRC. Therefore, attendance of every representative at each monthly MSC meeting and SRC meeting is a necessity in order to properly fulfill the position.

The SRC representative is responsible for reporting to the MSC regarding the progress of the committee. In the event that the committee does not meet as scheduled (once per month), the representative is still responsibile for contacting and meeting with the committee chair to obtain an update before the next MSC meeting.

The SRC representative has full voting priveleges as a member of the committee and is regarded by the faculty and administration as an equal contributor to the proper functioning of the committee. Therefore, the highly recommended candidates will also be the most proactive students.

Before accepting the position, the SRC candidate agrees to attend the annual MSC Leadership Day in August as well as serve as a member of the the interview committee on the subsequent Interview Day during the following year. Both of these events will take place on a Saturday.

Teacher-Learner Advocacy Committee: Student Responsibilities

  • Students shall attend all required meetings of the Teacher-Learner Advocacy Committee.
  • Students shall conduct themselves with integrity and in a professional manner in all matters that come before the committee.
  • Students will respect the privacy of all individuals who choose to bring business before the committee, as well as all individuals who may be named in such business.
  • Students will participate actively in business that comes before the committee, and shall treat assignments entrusted to them by the rest of the committee with respect, professionalism, and integrity.
  • Student members will act as full members of the committee, with the same rights, priviliges, and responsibilities as staff / faculty members of the committee.
  • Student members shall respond to requests for meetings or an investigation by the committee in an expedient manner, and will not allow assigned responsibilities on the committee to go unfulfilled.
  • Student members shall excuse themselves from any proceeding or business in which their impartiality is not guaranteed.
  • Student members shall remain students in good academic standing. Students who are unable to fulfill their academic responsibilities in conjunction with those assigned by the committee may be asked to step down.

Used Book Sale Coordinator: Responsibilities

  1. Plan, organize, and carry out the annual Medical Student Council book sale.  The Used Book Sale Coordinator may recruit other students to help in the organization and operation of the used book sale.
  2. Keep the Medical Student Council and entire student body apprised of the used book sale's status, scheduled date, and procedures for selling and buying books.

Volunteer Services Coordinators: Responsibilities

  1. Serve as a liaison between the Office of Medical Services-Learning (OMSL) and the Medical Student Council in order to further strengthen the relatinship between the two entities.
  2. Therefore, at least one Volunteer Services Coordinator is present at the monthly Medical Student Council meetings and the Medical Alumni Council meetings.
  3. Work through student leaders to keep students informed about volunteer opportunities within the community and to recruit volunteers for projects and events.
  4. Keep the MSC informed about relevant student projects, activities, needs and priorities and advise that group on students' perspectives.
  5. Work with OMSL-recognized organizations to develop funding and resource plans to enable them to carry out desired activities throughout the semester.
  6. Act as a liaison between OMSL-recognized organizations and IUPUI or the Medical Student Council in matters relating to OMSL group funding.
