Admissions Committee - Eligibility and Selection

Selection of Student Members of the Admissions Committee

Two students will be selected by the dean to sit on the Admissions Committee.

Candidates to become members of the Admissions Committee must be fourth year medical students in good standing. The most highly regarded candidates are passionate about Indiana University School of Medicine, intend to remain in Indianapolis for the majority of their fourth year rotations, will miss very few Admissions Committee meetings, and demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the many facets of the medical school in regards to its curriculum, culture and vision.

Four recommendations are written by the student interview steering committee during Interview Day. These recommendations are presented to the President and Vice President of the Medical Student Council and to the Executive Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Professional Development.

The Executive Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Professional Development solicits input on the candidacy of the four recommended students from the Chair of the Admissions Committee, currently the Executive Associate Dean for Educational Affairs.

In order to provide feedback, the Chair of the Admissions Committee conducts a second round of interviews on the four candidates and, along with the Executive Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs and Professional Development, makes the final decision on the selection of two students to sit on the Admissions Committee.
