The MSC Executive elections are rapidly approaching! This year, the elections will take place at the MSC Leadership Day, which will be held on Saturday October 19th (more info/details to follow). We invite all students interested in seeking an MCS Executive role to please attend the next MSC General Meeting (Sept 23, 6pm, CE 405) to learn more about how the MSC functions as well as pick up on some ideas for your campaign platform.
Students planning to run for an executive position should also plan to attend the MSC Leadership Day, so please plan ahead about asking for time off from clerkship/classroom duties that day. If you are struggling to get this time off, please contact me (Jenna Fritsch, firstname.lastname@example.org
), and I can assist you with getting Dean-approved excusal.
I encourage interested students to please review the roles/responsibilities of the executive positions online here
and contact the officer currently in the position to ask him/her questions regarding the role. We are in the process of attempting to create and approve a sixth executive position whose responsibility would be to serve as a "statewide executive" in charge of issues related to the satellite campuses. This position is to be held by a student that spend their first two years at one of the satellite campuses (if the position does indeed get approved by the MSC). The executive treasurer position is to be held by a student residing in Indianapolis for efficient coordination of MSC finance. The other executive positions are open to anyone at any campus.
I will send a more formal announcement regarding due dates of platforms at a later time, but platforms will likely be due in early October and speeches will take place at Leadership Day. Elections proceed in the following order, and are drop-down elections meaning that if a candidate does not get one position, they can choose to run for the subsequent exec positions if they would like: President--> VP --> VP of Membership --> (RCL/Statewide Exec) --> Treasurer --> Secretary. Despite the drop-down structure, I encourage candidates to only run for positions which truly interest them and for which they have designed a solid platform. I have attached the platforms written last year by the current officers to give you an idea of the type of information you may consider including in your own platform.

Attached you will find the platforms submitted for the 2013-2014 MSC Executive Council Elections, to take place November 12th. While any IUSM student is welcome to ask questions of candidates and participate in the discussions that occur during the elections, only voting members (MSC Execs, Class Officers, and Center Reps) will be able to vote on the candidates. Thus, I urge any interested student to contact a voting member or to attend elections if they would like to participate.
The MSC Executives represent all medical students statewide and help facilitate/spearhead initiatives to improve the academic environment and student life at IUSM. I strongly encourage all students to take an interest in these elections!

Want to get more involved? Do you feel passionate about student issues and want to make a difference at IUSM?
If so, I invite you to consider running for one or more of the Medical Student Council Executive Officer positions! All five positions are up for election and last for one year starting in January:
- Executive Vice President
- Vice President of Membership
All students in good standing are eligible to run for these positions. You may run for as many positions as you like but please only submit one platform (2 pages or less - ideally one!). Submit all platforms to mscexec@IUPUI.EDU by Thursday October 25 at midnight.
Elections will take place at the MSC meeting at 6pm on Monday, November 12 in the IUPUI Campus Center, Room CE409. Please plan on attending in person or via polycom if you are running for office. Contenders will be asked to give a brief speech followed by Q&A.

There was really no time in December that seemed to be a good time for a meeting, so we have scheduled two in November. Remember that MSC Exec elections will take place at the official November meeting (Nov 12), and the last meeting of the calendar year (Nov 29) will be jointly run by the incoming and outgoing board.
Please mark your Calendars! Of course I will be sending out a school-wide email closer to each date to remind everyone!

Do you want to make an impact on your school? Serving as one of the Medical Student Council Executive Officers is a great way to do so! Any medical student from any year in good academic standing can run for one or more of the five executive positions. Candidates should write a one-page platform (details below) and speak at the next MSC meeting (Wed Nov 9, 3-5 minutes with questions).
Platforms are due on Wed Oct 26. Each candidate should write one platform, regardless of the number of positions he or she is running for. The platform should include:
Why the student is a good candidate for the position
Why the student wishes to hold the position
What specific ideas the student has for the position

The MSC has organized a Nuts and Bolts session for all medical student groups at 5pm Wed Nov 9 directly before the next MSC meeting. If you are or are seeking to be a registered group with IUPUI (requirements here) to apply for IUPUI funding or to get free color printing through the school, your group must send a representative to a Nuts and Bolts session for the year, fill out a renewal form, and submit an advisor agreement. If you can't make it to the MSC-sponsored Nuts and Bolts session, you can find a full list of sessions here.

Each registered Student Interest Group (SIG) in Indianapolis has 60 free color copies per month through the Media Productions Center. If you are a representative of a SIG that needs copying, please contact email@example.com with your group's name, the number of copies you would like, and your attachment in .pdf format.
Please note that you must be registered through IUPUI for this service. If you are registered only through the Medical Student Council (MSC), you may contact one of the MSC Executive Council Officers to use some of the MSC's monthly allotment on a first come, first serve basis.
There has been a lot of confusion lately on how to connect to Video Bridge to join the MSC meeting from regional campuses, so we have created an instruction on how to connect from IU sites, non-IU sites, or your phone, adapted from ones provided by Digital Media Network Services.
These and other IT instructions have been added to the General Student Resources page. Please take a look at your convenience and let us know if there is any item you would like to add or if you notice an outdated item, and we will respond to your request swiftly.
