MICROSURGERY TRAINING PROGRAMDr. Coleman teaching resident

To teach the skills required to perform microvascular, microneural, and microtubular surgeries required in a variety of surgical specialties including Plastic Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Urology, General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Otolaryngology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Cardiothoracic Surgery. More advanced training is available and is tailored to the individual's special needs and interest.



Basic Microsurgical Course ( 40 hours)

This course focuses on training students to acquire a higher level of basic skills in microvascular surgery by means of intense laboratory practice. This forty hour course involves six sessions which cover the following topics:Vessel Repair (0.8 mm diameter,

11-0 suture)>

A certificate of Completion is issued by the Division of Plastic Surgery, Indiana University School of Medicine.

Advanced Microsurgical Course (12 hours)

This course is designed for training senior residents and surgeons to acquire advanced skills in microvascular replantation and free tissue transfer focusing on clinical applications. This twelve hour course involves two sessions which cover the following topics:Vessel End-to-Side Anastomosis

A Certificate of Completion is issued by the Division of Plastic Surgery, Indiana University School of Medicine.

Basic Microsurgical Course
( 40 hours)

Nerve Graft (1.5mm diameter, 11-0 suture)
Practicing Physician/Fellow $1,500
Resident $1,500

Advanced Microsurgical Course
( 12 hours)

$900

This includes all supplies and instructional materials. Courses begin each Monday and run through Friday. Course hours are 8:30 a.m. through 5:00 p.m.

Please send an email with the preferred dates to jge@iupui.edu and reserve a position in training courses at least 45 days prior to the initiation of the course. The registration fee for the Basic Microsurgical Course is $300.00 and is refundable.
