Research
The long term goal of my research is to elucidate molecular mechanisms which are responsible for the neuronal apoptosis and inflammation in ischemia brain injury and neurodegenerative disorders. The research will provide valuable information which may lead to the development of preventive and therapeutic approaches to these disorders. In particular, my interests include: 1) studying associations between specific genes and Alzheimer’s disease by using genotyping techniques; 2) setting up animal and cell culture models for the mechanistic studies; 3) aiming at inhibiting the inflammatory and neuronal apoptotic pathways to slow down developments of ischemic brain injury and neuronal degenerative disorders; 4) isolating and characterizing human anti-beta-amyloid antibodies which may be used for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.
The laboratory is a molecular cell biology laboratory. Most molecular and cell biology techniques performed in this laboratory include: PCR, genotyping, promoter study, cloning and expression, Southern, northern and western blotting, gel-shift assay, protein purification, immunocytochemistry, image analysis, ELISA, primary brain cell cultures, cell toxicity study, animal surgery, and analysis of transgenic mice. I have set up collaborations with clinical and basic science laboratories internationally
