Psi Chi, National Honor Society in Psychology, recently awarded one of IUPUI’s faculty members with a prestigious award. We're so proud of our own Dr. Drew Appleby who was presented with the honor of “Distinguished Member” at the 2008 American Psychological Association Convention in Boston, Massachusetts. This honor has been bestowed upon only 31 members, including Albert Bandura, B. F. Skinner, and Philip Zimbardo. Psi Chi recognizes “distinguished members” as those who have “demonstrated outstanding contributions to the field of psychology and for devoted and conscientious efforts toward achieving the purpose of Psi Chi.” The purpose of Psi Chi is “to encourage, stimulate, and maintain excellence in scholarship of the individual members in all fields, particularly in psychology, and to advance the science of psychology.” Dr. Appleby has served as a mentor and advisor to many of us who attend IUPUI, in addition to many that have graduated. As a mentor to students who are interested in research and teaching, he has provided encouragement, opportunities, and advocacy. Dr. Appleby’s dedication to the scholarship of his students is instrumental in achieving the purpose of Psi Chi here at IUPUI and beyond.
Psi Chi is also excited to announce that on March 25th at 7:00 p.m. in Lilly Auditorum the local Psi Chi Chapter at IUPUI will hold it's annual induction of new members.
