Psi Chi and Psychology Club are pleased to co-sponsor a three-hour presentation during which Ms. Jane Elliott, the adaptor of the Blue Eyes/Brown Eyes exercise, will be teaching about the anatomy of prejudice, the subject of the Peabody Award-winning film, "The Eye of the Storm." She will introduce and discuss the film, and explore with the audience the problems of racism, sexism, ageism, homophobia, and ethnocentrism and the responsibility shared by all of us for illuminating them in and eliminating them from ourselves and our environment. Ms. Elliott is a dynamic and fascinating speaker. Seven years ago, when she last visited IUPUI, students reported that she was the speaker that has had the most positive impact upon them. She received during that presentation, a 15 minute standing ovation. The presentation coming will be a real treat!
Those attending the presentation will be encouraged to discuss the issues raised as they relate to their own workplace or school. They will also be encouraged to discuss the materials presented on the handouts which are designed to help them identify their own racist statements, behaviors, and attitudes. Participants will receive a list of suggested activities which, if implemented, can help them decrease the amount of racism in their environment and a list of books which, if read, can provide added insights to the problems of the -isms with which we are all confronted.
When: March 24th from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Where: IUPUI Student Center 4th floor multi-purpose room
Sponsored by: Psychology Club and Psi Chi, IUPUI Psychology Department, Office of Equity, IUPUI Student Programming Board, and Student Council
