Library Directors’ Reports:

University Library – David Lewis

-          IUPUI Libraries has selected the MetaLib federated search engine product to implement.  A working group is working through the implementation process.  Next Fall is the goal for a reasonable, stable release.  IUB has selected a SIRSI federated search engine product.  Feeling is that in the future all campuses will come together on a single federated search engine platform - but for now IUPUI Libraries will use MetaLib.  One particular goal of the implementation is to Link through Oncourse to create full text (SFX) reading lists as an alternative to maintaining electronic reserves.  Linking works around copyright issues.

-          IN Academic Libraries group - formed 2 1/2 years ago for Lilly Endowment grant pursuits - did not receive a grant so is regrouping and pursuing statewide initiatives and programs.  The group offers a way for larger Universities and Colleges to collaborate with smaller private Colleges; however, a draw back is concern over access to small, specialized collections.

-          UL – received a 2-year grant to digitize IN history.  A new flatbed scanner was acquired for the grant and can be used for other library projects as long as the work and time is funded.  Contact Robin Crumrin regarding use of the flatbed scanner.

-          UL Reference room is changing to an information commons.   Currently in planning and fund raising stage.

-          10 year UL celebration is April 24th - all invited to join in the fun!

Law Library – Judith Anspach

-          Welcomed 2 new law librarians (not replacements – new positions): Dragomir Cosanici & Debra Denslaw.  Debra holds degrees from Valparaiso & IL (dual degree).  Dragomir, head of reference, holds degrees from MI & KN (dual degree).  The law library is able to increase reference hours - weekend hours now.

-          $50K for monographs has established an approval plan with Blackwell.  Law library offered to share these new resources with IUPUI Libraries.

Medical Library – No report

Dental Library – No report

Committee Reports:

IUPUI Library Faculty Standards Committee

-          Jennifer Hehman – January 2004 solicited comments and feedback regarding P&T Committee report with a March 1 deadline.  Received comments and compiled/forwarded to P&T Committee for review.  Thanks to all for your hard work.

IULFC Representatives

-          Polly Boruff-Jones - Compiled comments collected and forwarded to IULFC secretary.  Next step is to review comments on librarians day and then will have an opportunity to vote on the changes.

Old Business:

-          There was no old business to report.

New Business:

IUPUI Library Faculty Bylaws Committee

-          Emily Dill – Proposed change for election quorum definition due to past problems getting enough people to attend election meeting.  Proposed changing 50% of membership to 20 members.  After some debate, a motion was passed for Emily to report back to the IUPUI Library Faculty Bylaws Committee an agreed upon change from 50% of membership to 33% of membership present for election quorum.

-          April 21st meeting is the election meeting.
