Call to Order & Presentation of Election Slate

 

The meeting was called to order by Martha McCormick, IUPUI Library Faculty Chair.  Ms. McCormick presented the slate of candidates for IUPUI Library Faculty positions.  She asked for any additional nominations from the floor and there were none.

 

The March 26, 2003 minutes were approved with corrections.

 

Announcements

 

Martha McCormick announced that Jennifer Hehman was elected to the IUPUI FC Board of Review Pool for 2003-05. 

 

The Herron Chronicle, a history of the IUPUI Herron School of Art, is now available for purchase through the Herron School (the Herron Art Library also has a copy) .  A book signing opportunity will take place at the downtown Boarders Bookstore on April 24, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM.

 

Ms. McCormick expressed her sincere gratitude to the entire group for their contribution and support during her tenure as IUPUI Library Faculty President.

 

Kevin Petsche, IU Librarian’s Day Committee member, encouraged librarians to participate in IU Librarian’s Day on Friday, April 25, 2003.

 

Sue London reported that the front entrance of the Medical Library is now open.

 

Wendell Johnting announced the upcoming InULA annual business meeting from 3:30 – 5:00, May 21, 2003.

 

Ann O’Bryan informed the library faculty that University Library has hired Ms. Kristi Palmer, former IUPUI GA, as the newest member of the cataloging team.  She will start her position June 1.

 

Kathleen Hanna, Chair of the IUPUI Book Sale Committee, stated that the first IUPUI InULA book sale earned $2,300.  The remaining monographs will be sent to a university in Ethiopia, Africa.

 

Library Directors’ Reports

 

University Library – David Lewis

 

Budgetary issues continue to be discussed.  One million dollars generated by increased student fees will be allocated to the library over three years.  The University Library and Medical Library repository initiative is expected to go live during the summer of 2003.  The common pool of electronic resources project is ongoing.

 

Committee Reports

 

IULFC – Jim Baldwin and Kevin Petsche

 

Upon reissuing a call for applicants (no one applied for the award during the first call for applications), the White Award was resurrected.  Eight applications were received and an announcement of an award recipient will be forthcoming. 

 

IULFC – Promotion and Tenure Committee – Richard Humphrey

 

Richard Humphrey announced that the IULFC Promotion and Tenure Committee would be hosting two programs at Librarian’s Day, one on mid-tenure review and the other on promotion to full librarian.

 

Chris Long, member of the IULFC Promotion and Tenure Review Committee, reported that this group had a meeting the day before which he had not attended.  The group will be issuing a report soon.

 

As a member of the IUPUI Library Faculty Promotion and Tenure Review Committee, Chris Long announced that the committee had finished its work and submitted its report to Chancellor Plater.  The IUPUI Library Faculty may want to consider some of the suggestions presented in the report.

 

Break

 

The group then took a break in preparation for the upcoming election.

Old Business

 

There was no old business to report.

 

New Business

 

In order for elections to be held, a quorum was needed. The IUPUI Library Faculty Bylaws state that fifty percent of the membership shall constitute a quorum.   There are 57 IUPUI Library Faculty members and 23 were in attendance at today’s meeting.  Those in attendance voted by paper ballot and additional ballots were submitted prior to the meeting and delivered via e-mail while the meeting was in session.  In total, 32 ballots were received thus allowing the election to proceed.

 

It was agreed upon that election results would be tabulated after adjournment and the elected officers would be announced via e-mail.

 

The meeting adjourned.

IUPUI Library Faculty Secretary, 2003/04:  Amy Hatfield

 

IULFC Representatives, 2003/05:  Polly Boruff-Jones and Sue London

IULFC Alternates, 2003/05:  Mary Hudson and Miriam Murphy

 

There were two ties – one for Chair-Elect and for IULFC Faculty Review Board Representative.  A run-off ballot was conducted by e-mail.  The results are:
