Announcements

 

Martha McCormick announced that Jan Cox has been appointed Head Librarian of the IU School of Dentistry Library.

 

Jan Cox announced the airing and invited those interested to attend a teleconference on the USA PATRIOT Act being held Dec. 11 from 12:00 – 3:00 in the University Library Lilly Auditorium.

 

The April 17, 2002 minutes were approved with corrections.

 

Library Directors Reports:

 

Medical Library:  Sue London for Julie McGowan

 

The ‘People Mover’ construction continues making access to the Medical Library problematic.

 

Dental Library:  Jan Cox

 

IUSDL is progressing with the CLIO software implementation and is targeting Jan. 1, 2003 to have the ILL management software up and running.

 

Law Library: 

 

A search and screen committee has been formed to hire a new library director; Kenny Crews is chairing this committee.  Interviews will take place in Jan. – Feb. 2003 with a new hire starting July 1.  The Law School Library is going through an independent review from outside consultants from Case Western and University of North Carolina.

IULFC Faculty Review Board – Kevin Petsche

 

Suzanne Thorin provided an Administrative Report to the committee.  She is pleased with Bepko assuming IU interim presidency.  Dean Thorin is projecting a 0% increase in the systemwide budget.  Dean Thorin will be meeting with the IU Board of Trustees to discuss such issues as database access and consistent statistics for databases.  In particular, Julie McGowan noted that Dean Thorin will be introducing the idea of a systemwide budget to determine database purchasing.  This has developed from IUlink. 

 

IU Main Library Bloomington is conducting a pilot project of keeping the building open until 2:00 am. 

 

IULFC has a webmaster position available.

 

 

IULFC Promotion & Tenure Committee – Fran Brahmi

 

Academic Standards are being looked at by BJ Irvine and Linda Fisher.

 

The committee is continuing to look at:  mentoring – how to handle it, is it working and how useful is the mid-tenure process.  The committee will be conducting the following workshops on the following dates (topics to be announced later).

 

            April (date not set yet) – Bloomington

            May 9 – Fort Wayne or South Bend

            April 25, Librarians Day – focus on mentoring

 

IULFC Research Committee – no report

 

University Faculty Council – Jennifer Hehmann

 

There is some rewriting occurring with the constitution.  There are now two localized committees dealing with research affairs.  These committees monitor copyright and intellectual property issues.  Kenny Crews sits on these committees.

 

The Annual InULA Booksale will be held Sunday, April 6, 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm and Monday, April 7, 9:00 am - 4:30 and 5:00 pm8:00 pm. in Room E174 IU-Main Library, Bloomington.  There will be a $10.00 admission fee preview sale from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm on Sunday, April 6.

 

Old Business

 

There was no old business to report.

 

New Business

 

President Bepko will give his last State of the Campus message Dec 5 at 3:00.

 

The group took a break.  Upon reconvening, the IUPUI librarian committee reviewing the guidelines for librarian P&T at IUPUI reported on their progress.  The group is chaired by Sara Hook, Associate Dean of the Faculties at IUPUI.  Sara led the discussion and committee members reported on their working group assignments.   The current IUPUI Promotion and Tenure Guidelines are available at:  http://www.jaguars.iupui.edu/frames/home/home.html
