Announcements
Barclay reminded the faculty that IU Librarian's Day will be held tomorrow, Friday, April 28, 2000, at IU East in Richmond.
Makepeace informed the faculty that the IU Webmaster has begun linking to the IU Libraries page in its new location in the new Indiana University Library Faculty Council (IULFC) Web account (http://www.indiana.edu/~iulfc/libraries/). The page was temporarily housed on the IUPUI Library Faculty Website at (http://www.iupui.edu/~libfac/libraries/iu.html)
Boruff-Jones called attention to the Special Library Association video conference on information portals to be held from noon to 3:00 p.m. today, April 27, 2000, in the University Library (UL) Ruth Lilly Auditorium. Space is still available.
Approval of Minutes
Approval of the minutes of the March 8, 2000, meeting was deferred to the next meeting.
Directors' Reports
Medical School Library (Barclay for Julie McGowan): RLML expects to gain two new clerical or PA positions in circulation. The library is also competing for the National Library of Medicine (NLM) contract to be the Greater Midwest Regional Medical Library.
University Libraries (Goodwin and Staum-Kuniej for David Lewis): The University Libraries have contracted to have Faxon act as their serials jobber for electronic journals. The agreement seems to be the first of its type in the world. The Indiana University Board of Trustees has approved the conceptual design of the new main building for the Herron School of Art. The school is expected to occupy the remodelled building in 2003.
Committee and Representative Reports
Indiana University Library Faculty Council (IULFC) (Eckerman, Goodwin, Ralston): The council has decided to create its own Web account. Roger Beckwith was charged with identifying appropriate material for the new Website, which will be maintained by Yolanda Cooper-Birdine. The council discussed allowing only tenured members to serve as chair of the Promotion and Tenure Committee. Currently the position of chair rotates by campus, leaving the option for untenured members to serve as P & T chair. It was also suggested that the librarian grievance committees on each campus may be redundant. Librarians currently have the option of choosing whether to take a grievance to their campus librarians' grievance committee or to the grievance committee for all faculty on that campus.
Nominating Committee (Long): The ballots in this year's
IUPUI Library Faculty elections have been counted. These are the
results:
Secretary: Randall Halverson
Indiana University Library Faculty Council (IULFC):
IULFC Promotion and Tenure Committee:
Barclay asked members to contact him with if interested in putting together orientation materials or an orientation program to help new members comprehend the complicated web of faculty governance at IUPUI and IU.
New Business
Eckerman asked that the faculty consider proposing that, as an administrator, Dean Thorin serve ex officio on IULFC, rather than presiding over the organization. Discussion ensued. The matter was deferred to the faculty's next meeting.
The meeting adjourned around 9:55 a.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Jonathan Makepeace
IUPUI Library Faculty Secretary
