Announcements
Nancy Eckerman announced that promotion and tenure workshops are being held, including one scheduled for March 29 at IUPUI.
Dean Thorin encouraged nominations for the open position of Head of the Digital Library Program and announced that Bob Hull has accepted the position of Head of the Swain Hall Library. IUB is also looking for a new Associate Dean of Technical Services. An initial search failed to identify a new Web Manager (a PA position). Dean Thorin also mentioned that the Board of Trustees is considering the Library Auxiliary Facility, a preservation lab and offsite housing for infrequently consulted resources. The board would like to have sufficient capacity for the near future and are considering going beyond a four-aisle facility to a six-aisle facility or perhaps two four-aisle facilities. IUB may be expected to kick in some funding.

Old Business
No old business was raised.
New Business
Fore informed the faculty that the IUPUI Faculty Council is changing its bylaws and constitution regarding the composition of faculty boards of review and campus promotion and tenure committees to exclude supervisors from these bodies. The intention is to strengthen the distinction between the faculty and the administration.
Untenured people are not eligible to serve on these bodies, and it is not immediately clear whether the proposal would, for example, bar library department heads or team leaders from serving. If so, this would greatly limit the number of librarians eligible to serve.
Hehman suggests that we could request an exception for librarians next year or amend the exclusion so that supervisors only be excluded from deliberations concerning their subordinates.
Eckerman noted that the IUPUI Faculty Council now insists that people attending council meetings for someone else must themselves be eligible for election to the council. Hehman added that substitutes can no longer simultaneously represent multiple people. Each absent member must find a separate substitute.
Speaker
Suzanne Thorin, Ruth Lilly University Dean of University Libraries, spoke with the faculty about partnering among the IU Libraries as well as with outside entities.
The meeting adjourned around 10:30 a.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Jonathan Makepeace
