Approval of Minutes
The minutes of the April 21, 1999, meeting were approved as submitted.
Directors' Reports
Law School Library (Johnting for James Bailey): The new Law School building is expected to be completed in October of 2000; move-in may follow in May of 2001. A search is underway to fill the position of Associate Director.
Medical School Library (McGowan): Julie McGowan has just arrived on campus as the new Director. She is currently undertaking an abbreviated strategic planning process and expects to implement a minor reorganization.
University Libraries (Stanley for David Lewis): A search is underway to fill the position of University Librarian and Executive Director of Libraries. University Libraries welcome Patsy Allen, Polly Boruff-Jones, Fran Huehls, and Martha McCormick into new librarian positions.
Committee and Representative Reports
IUPUI Faculty Council (Baldwin): The Council is currently focused on the matter of transfer credit.
Indiana University Library Faculty Council (IULFC) (Long): Volunteers are needed to serve on the White Award Committee and Librarians' Day Committee.
IULFC Review Board (Eckermann): The Board is studying whether other boards of review available to librarians already fulfill the Board's function.
- discussion -
Baldwin: Board of review structure should parallel the promotion and tenure committee structure. IUB librarians still do not go through their campus promotion and tenure committee. Librarians can currently choose campus or library faculty boards of review. Since IUPUI librarians are integrated into the campus promotion and tenure structure, why would we need access to both boards of review?
Harmon: Would this be an appropriate topic for a IUPUI Library Faculty program, to clarify this issue?
Barclay will make inquiries.
- discussion concluded -
IULFC Promotion and Tenure Committee (Gall): The Committee has fifteen cases before it this year: five concerning promotion to full librarian, seven concerning promotion from assistant to associate in conjunction with tenure, one concerning tenure alone, and two mid-tenure reviews.
Old Business
No old business was raised.
New Business
No new business was introduced.
The meeting adjourned at 10:00 a.m. Our next meeting is scheduled from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 17, 1999, in University Library (UL) 0110. Associate Dean for Faculty Development Nancy Chism will be our guest speaker.
Respectfully submitted,
Jonathan Makepeace
