Announcements and Introductions
Promotion and Tenure Workshop will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on April 22, 1999, in room UL 1116, University Library.
Carole Gall recently returned from a conference in Taiwan. She reported on her trip and the experience.
Bob Hinton has been named to the Depository Library Council to the Public Printer.
Philip Tompkins has just returned from a consulting trip to the University of Clermont-Ferrand.
A reception to honor Dolores Hoyt on the publication of A Strong Mind in a Strong Body: Libraries in the German-American Turner Movement will be held at the University Library on May 5, 1999.
The Librarian from the University of Clermont-Ferrand will be conducting a site visit this summer because they are in the process of building a new library and David Lewis will be visiting there during the summer.
Approval of Minutes from February 17, 1999
Minutes of the February 17, 1999, meeting were approved as submitted.
Directors' Reports
University Library (Philip Tompkins): The dedication of the new Joseph and Matthew Payton Philanthropic Studies Library will be held on April 28, 1999. Mary Stanley has been accepted into the Bryn Mayr Women in Higher Education this summer. The library is still waiting for a major commitment from Vice President McRobbie on the budget. Philip Tompkins will be retiring and David Lewis will be the Acting Director. The University Library is in the process of hiring 4-5 librarians.
Dentistry Library (Sara Hook): There will be an accreditation site visit in September. The library made a good showing in the mock site visit. Sara Hook has left her current position and Jan Cox is the Acting Head Librarian. A Search and Screen Committee is being formed.
Medical Library (Carole Gall and Nancy Eckerman): The library received a $75,000 grant for the MedLine Plus Project to catalog consumer medical health information. Peggy Richwine will work on the project. A $200,000 grant was received from the National Library of Medicine that will focus on the under served area in southern Indiana.
Law School (Chris Long): The groundbreaking ceremony for the new Law School building will be on April 28. They expect to move into the new building for Spring Semester 2001. Minde Browning is having major surgery on Friday and will be out for an extensive recovery.
Committee and Representative Reports
IULFC (Chris Long): Dossier routing is a major concern. Dean Thorin would like to be further down in the review so she could be an advocate. The regional campuses have a different viewpoint and she will be consulting with the regional P&T committees. Librarian's Day will be on May 13 in Kokomo.
P&T Committee (Nancy Eckerman): The next workshop is on April 22 in the University Library.
Elections
Mary Stanley reported on the results of the election.
There was a tie between Vania Goodwin and Cindy Stokes. Vania withdrew her nomination and will serve as the alternate.
