Announcements

Randall Halverson was introduced as the new science librarian at University Library. He can assist in research in the medical and science fields, and statistical analysis.

Joe Harmon reported that InULA will be having their meeting at the University Library in January and will be discussing workloads, 10-month contracts, and how IUPUI can be more involved in governance.

Directors' Reports

University Library (Philip Tompkins) -- Tim Kelley is recuperating from brain surgery. The construction within the library has begun. The candidate for the Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning withdrew so a new search will be conducted.

Medical Library (Fran Brahmi) -- A proposal to the Indiana University Foundation to receive 10 more concurrent user licenses was submitted. An article will appear in the Medical Reference Services Quarterly. Fran Brahmi and Rick Ralston will train African scientists in Kenya through a grant from the Fogerty International Foundation.

Dentistry School (Sara Hooks) -- The library will be expanding on the first and second floors. Besides being in a better location, it will also include a History of Dentistry Room and a training room.

Committee and Representative Reports

IULFC (Chris Long reporting) -- Committees are being finalized.

Faculty Review Board - The board is clarifying the function of the Faculty Review Boards for librarians.

Faculty Standards -- A survey about the effectiveness of mid-tenure reviews is being conducted. They are also reviewing the issues of administrators on P&T committees.

Research Committee -- If a librarian has participated on a research project in the last six months, please email Chris Long with details about the project.

P&T Committee -- The next meeting will be in January. There will be a DYNAMIC P&T workshop presented in the spring.

Old Business

Post Tenure Review Board -- There will be training for department chairs and supervisors. A handbook is being developed to cover this issue. Each school will define "chronic work problem" and define the threshold level.

18/20 Plan Report -- The report can be viewed on the web. Since the plan is already to the Board of Trustees, a special meeting to discuss the issues will not be pursued. It was noted that recruitment will be difficult in the future with a 2% decrease in fringe benefits.

Dossier Routing Slips -- The Dean of Libraries wants to be in a different place in the process. The academic handbook has not been revised since 1972 and should be reviewed. The faculty section was revised in 1991 with generic statements.

The meeting was adjourned at 3:04 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Brenda L. Burk
