Committee Reports
IULFC(Nancy Eckerman reporting)
Dean Thorin is exploring the possibility of changing the routing for non-Bloomington librarians. She would like to have them routed to her after they go to the individual campus committees.
The Faculty Standards Committee is still exploring the issues surrounding the non-librarian personnel officer.
Post Tenure Review moves forward slowly. It is supposed to be on the IUPUI Faculty Council agenda in the near future.
IUPUI Faculty Standards Committee(Joe Harmon reporting)
In their review of the status of the Human Resources Officer vis-a-vis the Personnel Librarian, the Committee saw no need for a change in procedure. For the most part, the Officer serves as ex officio on the various committees and is responsib le for administrative tasks. The Library Faculty Handbook language will need to be changed. The committee is still considering the problem of who will take up the mentoring and P&T advisory functions. Their Mid-Tenure Review review report will be issu ed in the next few weeks.Research Committee (Mahnaz Moshfegh reporting)
The Research Committee with have a demonstration of the website at Librarians day and a Panel Discussion on April 20.
Old Business
The Letters Task Force presented an informal document (in the nature of an FAQ web page) to help address the issues of solicited letters in dossiers for promotion to Associate Librarian. It will be available at http://www.beaker.iupui.edu/libfac/letters.html. Comments and corrections should be brought to Julie Fore's attention.
Fran Brahmi reported that there was only one librarian dossier before the IUPUI P&T Committee this year. They had no trouble realizing the differences between faculty and librarian dossiers. There was no confusion on the criteria. She recommends short and to-the-point dossiers that focus on impact and significance of the candidates activity and achievements (not volume). When soliciting letters, be sure to emphasize the need for the letter writer to focus on the impact and significance as well.
Meeting adjourned at 2:50.
Ann Kratz presented an overview of the resources available from the Center for Teaching and Learning.
Respectfully Submitted,
Minde Browning
