Meeting Minutes
April 17, 1996

The meeting was called to order at 9:15 am with Kellie Kaneshiro presiding.

Attending: Baldwin, Brahmi, Browning, Crumrin, Eckerman, Feldman, Fore, Goodwin, Hay, Harmon, Hehman, Hook, Hoyt, Humphrey, Johnting, Kaneshiro, Kleinschmidt, London, Long, Moshfegh, Nissen, Orme, Otsu, Ralston, Staum-Kuneij, Wright, Guest: Wanida Chanthanathas

Meeting minutes from the February meeting were approved.

DIRECTOR'S REPORTS

University Libraries:

Introduction of the new acting head of Herron Library Sonja Staum-Kuneij and a guest visiting from Thailand Wanida Chanthanathas

Medical Library:

Peggy Richwine and Fran Brahmi are involved in the departmental review. The review should be finished by June and preliminary indications are that it looks positive. Also, the National Library of Medicine's $4 million contract has been awarded to Chicago.

Law Library:

The Law Library is working on a building plan.

Dental Library:

The search and screen for the new Dean continues. An extension is being proposed to the Dental Building and Sara Hook has put together a proposal for adding on to the library.

Election results were reported. See attached document.

Bylaws Committee

Standards Committee

Nothing to report

IULFC Representative

A motion was made to have the Special Study Group review the language regarding outside letters included in Dean Platter's IUPUI dossier preparation guidelines and report back to the library faculty. The motion passed.

Bill Orme brought up some concerns about the document distributed by the Task Force Report on Service.

The guest speaker Barbara Fischler, Director of SLIS, discussed issues relating to SLIS and professional development for librarians.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:00 am.
