Sleeping Giant? From Invisible to Invincible

Our Theme

This year, in order to celebrate the leaders of the future, we have chosen to honor those leaders of the past that have inspired us.  Rigoberta Menchu, Cesar Chavez, Diego Rivera, and Edward James Olmos are only a few of the major leaders of our time. From different fields of work, locations, and ethnicities, these leaders worked hard to have their voice heard and make the changes that they did. The media that called us the “Sleeping Giant” during the immigration marches got it wrong. We have not been sleeping. We have been, instead, working for decades to get our voices heard. When millions gathered and marched in protest of the immigration laws, something did change, we were, for the first time in a long time, acknowledged. As people crowded the streets, refusing to be INVISIBLE anymore, America realized that we were not only a GIANT but an INVINCIBLE one.
