Introduction to Trigonometry

The word "trigonometry" is derived from the three Greek words meaning " three angle measurements" or triangle measurement. It is possible to solve many problems using graphic methods. However, the accuracy of the drawing and the results depend on the person who did the drawing and how it was measured. Also, the graphical approach is time consuming and not suitable for computers. Trigonometry offers us a more accurate and less time consuming approach to solve problems is many occupations. Trigonometry is an essential tool in many occupations: it is a necessary tool in surveying, engineering, astronomy, mathematics, and physics.

Why Physical Education & Exercise Science Student need Trigonometry?

To understand, teach, and analyze athletic performance and human motion the students in PE & EXSC are required to have a certain level of proficiency in basic mechanics (Physics). This knowledge is imperative if the students want to understand techniques in sports, rehabilitation, dance, and human movement. Hay in the 1997 book Mechanics of Sports stated that teachers, coaches clinicians, and performers are in a disadvantage if they lack the knowledge of mechanics. Students in PE & EXSC are required to take Kinesiology/Biomechanics and Exercise Physiology, and these classes are taught with reference to basic trigonometric concepts.
