Registering for Volunteer ParticipationArchaeology Day at the Boxley Cabin, Chris at the screen with a volunteer

This is a public archaeology program with volunteers of all ages welcome to come and participate in our excavations and artifact processing during the field school.  You will be asked to sign a release form that will hold IUPUI and the Town of Sheridan blameless should you get injured on site (after all we are digging holes in the ground).  Forms will be available on site and can be filled out at the time you come to volunteer on site.

Because you are a volunteer, you can come to the site anytime when the field school is in session May 7 through June 18, Monday through Friday, 8:30 to 3:30, weather permitting.  The first three days of field school will be student instruction at IUPUI with excavations on site beginning May 12.  You do not have to work the full day, however, we do ask that you come prepared to work for a morning or afternoon at the least in order to give yourself time to experience more than one archaeological technique.  Most likely you will be paired with students or other volunteers first at the lab tables, then the screens, and finally in the excavation units.  The more you participate, the more you will learn about archaeology and the more skilled you will become.

In order to register, send your name and contact information (email or phone number) to (kcglidde at iupui dot edu) or call the IUPUI Anthropology Department at (317) 274-8207.
