Interested in becoming a Division I student-athlete? There are many academic and amateurism requirements for all college-bound student-athletes. The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has provided domestic high school students with the following reference materials:
- 2015-2016 Initial-Eligibility Brochure
- Quick Reference Sheet (also available in Spanish and French Canadian)
While these two publications provide a quick overview about the GPA and core course requirements that incoming student-athletes must complete, the 2015-2016 NCAA Guide for the College-Bound Student-Athlete is a comprehensive tool to help student-athletes prepare for the day they arrive on campus. For the individual who is more of a visual learner, the NCAA Eligibility Center provides an online course that educates prospective student-athletes and their parents about eligibility requirements. In addition, the NCAA provides the following presentations for college-bound student-athletes:
- Interactive Presentation for Student and Parents
- Your Path to the Student-Athlete Experience Presentation
Prospective student-athletes who enroll at a college or university on or after August 1, 2016 will see new academic requirements. Information about these new initial eligibility standards can be found at the website www.2point3.org or one of the following resources:
College-bound student-athletes who have completed any portion of their secondary education in a non-United States education system must also meet specific requirements in order to be eligible for competition at a NCAA Division I college or university. The 2014-2015 NCAA Guide to International Academic Standards is available to assist international students and their parents. The IUPUI International Student FAQ document is a great resource for international students planning to attend IUPUI.
Current student-athletes interested in transferring to another institution to compete in intercollegiate athletics should refer to the 2014-2015 NCAA Transfer Guide for basic eligibility information.
