Am I eligible to visit IUPUI Health Services?
All IUPUI students may visit IUPUI Health Services on a fee-for-service
basis.
Where are you located?
IUPUI Health Services are located on the first floor of Coleman Hall (CF
on the campus map). Coleman Hall is located at 1140 W. Michigan
Street, between Ball Residence Hall and Long Hospital and across from
the Dental School.
What are your hours?
IUPUI Health Services is open from 7:30am to 5:00pm on Monday, Tuesday,
Wednesday, and Friday. On Thursday, our hours are 9:00am to 5:00pm.
Do I need an appointment?
Appointments are recommended, but not required. Walk-ins and same-day appointments will be accommodated, if the schedule permits. Our last appointment
is at 4:00pm.
A nurse is available for triage and will determine if your need is urgent. We try to make appointments for the same day whenever possible. If you need to be seen by the Doctor or Nurse Practitioner, you will be seen as quickly as possible.
How do I get copies of my immunization records or other records?
Download the "Authorization to Release Medical Records" from the Forms Section under Student Health. Complete it and bring it to the clinic. Charges may apply-please see the clinic policy regarding medical record copying and requests.
How do I get birth control through the clinic?
An appointment must be made with a physician or nurse practitioner in the clinic. If you have had a pap smear within the last 12 months, please obtain a copy of the result and bring it to your appointment. If you have not had a pap within the last 12 months and fit the guidelines for needing one, please schedule a pap. If you need to see the guidelines, see the contraception section.
Appointments and cancellations may not be made via email. You must call IUPUI Health Services at 274-8214 to make or cancel an appointment.
What if I become ill after hours?
If you become ill or are injured and you need medical care that cannot
wait until our next business day, please visit an emergency room or immediate
care facility. See Emergency Care for locations on and near campus.
Does it cost anything to visit IUPUI Health Services?
Yes, students visiting IUPUI Health Services will have to pay for their
visits, vaccinations, medications, and lab/X-ray fees. Lab and
X-ray fees are billed separately.
How much does a visit cost?
The cost of your visit will depend on the services you receive. Office
visit fees range from $30 for a nurse visit to up to $150 for a physician
or nurse practitioner visit.
Lab and X-ray fees are billed separately. Reimbursement may be obtainable through your insurance carrier.
Do you accept insurance?
IUPUI Health Services will file insurance claims for medical students with Chickering insurance. Medical students are those studying to be medical doctors-this category does not include other programs that are within the IU School of Medicine.
IUPUI Health Services will not file insurance claims for any other students. Students outside of the above-mentioned groups with Chickering insurance or students with other types of insurance must pay for their visit at the time of service. A walk-out statement will be provided for students to file with their insurance for reimbursement upon request.
What forms of payment do you accept?
IUPUI Health Services will accept cash, checks, Visa, MasterCard, and the
JagTag.
Do I need a referral to see a specialist?
You do not need a referral if you have Chickering insurance. Ask your healthcare provider if you are insured under another plan.
Some universities require students to
pay a student health fee with their tuition. Does IUPUI?
Many universities charge a mandatory student health fee to
lower the costs of student health visits or to provide a number of free
visits to each student during a semester. IUPUI currently does not
have a student health fee, but IUPUI Health Services hope that this policy
will change in the future. It is our belief that a mandatory student
health fee would allow more students to access on-campus health services
at a lower cost than the current system.
How do I know if I need to visit IUPUI Health Services?
Visit When to See a Healthcare Provider for information on when it is time
to visit a healthcare provider.
What if I still have questions?
Questions about insurance coverage or costs need to be directed to Chickering or your insurer.
