Jujitsu Club
Back to Club

The Jujitsu club is based on traditional Japanese samurai battlefield techniques. Our techniques include chokes, throws, strikes, kicks, and a great number of dislocation and breaks. To a smaller degree we have ground grappling techniques both offensively and defensively. Unlike some Jujitsu systems to include Brazilian we are not based on Judo ground grappling (ne waza). Judo is the sport version of Samurai battlefield Jujitsu systems that does not include or focus upon lethal techniques or assume that any fight may involve more than one assailant. One of the trademarks of Japanese Jujitsu and Aikijutsu systems is that all responses are swift and primarily circular, the locks are extremely painful and will result in either one or both hands being free to deal with other attackers.

Jigoro Kano (the founder of Judo) purposely removed or modified the potentially lethal techniques of Jujitsu when he devised Judo to make them safe for all ages. Any consequent systems based on Judo will not include those techniques. Brazilian jujitsu techniques and specifically Gracie jujitsu came from the teachings of Count Maeda (a Japanese judo expert...not jujitsu). For competition Judo and Brazilian systems are excellent and have valid responses for competition environments. Our techniques have no sport application and have a progression of responses from pinning or incapacitating through a joint lock or break, choking and strikes, and for advance levels may result in death.

In saying that, we teach "semi-informal." We always have a good time and I encourage our students to ask questions and understand the principals behind why our techniques work, so they can make them work for them. I believe that martial arts are a personal journey and should reflect the character and nature of the individual, and not be a copy of the particular instructor.

The instructor is Earl Taylor (Renshi, Pinewind Jujitsu Dojo) and his experiences are:

  • 16 years in the Marine Corps as a Reconnaissance Sniper and close combat instructor.
  • Has been in Martial Arts since 1982 and have competed as well as trained all over the United States and in 12 different countries.
  • Currently hold the following ranks:
  • 6th degree Shugen Ryu Jujitsu
  • 3rd degree Okinawa Kenpo Karate
  • 2nd degree Chinese Kempo Karate

He is also trained in TaeKwondo and Shitoryu karate, but his preference is the battlefield arts. "I consider myself a student more than a teacher and believe that the only way to know if a technique works is to feel it!"
