CONTAMINATED INJURIES

IU Occupational Health Services offers a 24-hour phone message and pager, available to all IUPUI faculty, staff, and students.  The recording and pager are available for information pertinent to contaminated injuries.  If you have a contaminated injury, please call 274-OUCH (274-6824) and listen to the recording.  If you need further assistance, please page the IU Occupational Health Services OUCH pager at 212-OUCH (212-6824).  The OUCH pager is carried 365 days per year by either a physician or RN with extensive training in Occupational Medicine.

If you sustain a contaminated needlestick or blood/bodily fluid exposure while on the job and performing your duties, you must complete an incident report form.  Incident report forms are available on each unit/department; ask your supervisor for one and he/she will need to complete part of it also.  Page the OUCH pager to determine whether or not you should be seen immediately.  If the IU Occupational Health Services representative that answers the OUCH pager instructs you to be seen as soon as possible, follow their instructions.  If he/she determines that you do not need to be seen immediately, complete an incident report form and report to IU Occupational Health Services the next business day.  You should also bring with you the index patient's name, hospital number, and the Resident who is taking care of the patient.
