Virginia Majewski & Lisa McGuire, Co-Editors
Advances in Social Work, a peer-reviewed journal which addresses current issues, challenges, and responses facing social work practice and education, is seeking submissions for a special issue on “Social Work and Service-Learning in the Age of Competency-based Education.” Advances in Social Work is committed to enhancing the linkage among social work practice, research, and education – this special issue will explore the pedagogy of service-learning as a means of identifying, demonstrating and assessing competencies for professional practice. Participants at the conference “Assessing Professional Competencies Through Service-Learning,” to be held in Indianapolis from June 16 to 18, 2010, are invited to submit papers for inclusion in this peer-reviewed issue, although others not attending the conference are also encouraged to submit papers as well. Papers may be either
theoretical or research-focused.
This special issue will provide a vehicle for dissemination to the field of creative thinking and cutting-edge research on all aspects of service-learning for social work. The co-editors are specifically interested in manuscripts that address the ways that the pedagogy of service-learning provides opportunities to develop competencies and assess student learning. Submissions are due on September 1, 2010 with publication planned for Spring, 2011.
General guidelines for submission include:
· Each submission should be an original analysis that has not been published elsewhere and is not
under review for publication elsewhere.
· Range in length from 6,000 to 10,000 words (including tables, figures and references).
· Utilize APA style for headings and referencing of all sources.
Submissions are made online through the Advances in Social Work website. Further instructions are available at: https://advancesinsocialwork.iupui.edu/.
