School faculty to present during upcoming symposium

January 18, 2007

Physical education faculty members Drs. Lisa Angermeier and NiCole Keith will participate in a session on closing the gap in access to health promotion during the upcoming Joseph Taylor Symposium. The annual symposium addresses issues of interest to urban communities. Dr. Angermeier’s presentation will highlight her work in community-health improvement and the impact it has on health-care policy in Indianapolis.

The event, Urban Universities/Urban Communities: Partners in Social Justice, reflects IUPUI’s focus on civic engagement while also recognizing the complexities that emerge when bridging boundaries between academic institutions and their communities. The physical education department strives to do this through programs such as Fit for Life and the Motor Activity Clinic. Students and faculty actively participate in these efforts to promote wellness and the importance of physical activity among under-served populations within our community.

The Eighteenth Annual Joseph Taylor Symposium will be held on February 15, 2007 at the University Place Hotel and Conference Center. The symposium will showcase existing university collaborations, features keynote speakers Professor Edward Curtis (Religious Studies) and Professor Dana-Ain Davis (Anthropology, SUNY-Purchase College), and provides ample opportunity for audience participation.
