Indiana German Heritage Society Meeting and Symposium, March 23 and 24, 2007.

Students return from Camp Brosius; Family camp entertains alumni and guests.

One event you should have on your calendars is the annual Indiana German Heritage Society Meeting and Symposium, March 23 and 24, 2007.

This year’s theme is the Turners, Education and the 100th anniversary of the presence of the Normal College of the North American Gymnastic Union (Nordamerikanischer Turnbund) in Indianapolis and Indiana.

The symposium will bring first-rate presentations on the history of the turners and their school, the freethinkers, and the impact these groups had on education and the role they continue to play. A new book, the English version of Prof. Annette Hofmann’s German History of the American Turners, hopefully will be ready for the event.

The symposium will be staged in the former home of the Normal College, the Athenaeum in Indianapolis. For anyone interested in those topics or German-American experience, contact Dr. Giles Hoyt, ghoyt@iupui.edu or 317/274-2330.  Or, click here to register.
