The School of Physical Education and Tourism Management honored Phillip K. Hardwick as the 2006 Spirit of Philanthropy recipient during a campus-wide luncheon celebrating the contributions of some of the university’s most generous donors and volunteers.

Phil Hardwick joined the IU Foundation in the early 1980s after serving as the president of the Methodist Health Foundation and the campaign director of the United Way.  He very capably directed IUPUI's first major campaign, blowing away the school's $700 million goal and achieving $1,039 billion in nine years.  Phil's vision and commitment redefined fundraising for the IUPUI campus and its units, which now serves an inspiration for other universities.

Phil recently retired from his position of vice president of the IU Foundation and currently operates his own consulting firm, Philllip K. Hardwick Consulting. Throughout his forty-year fundraising career, Phil received numerous professional accolades. When he is not busy imparting his fundraising wisdom on others, he actively supports the Indiana Golf Foundation and assists with IUPUI athletics.  He received both his bachelor and master's degrees in recreation from Indiana University.

In 1998, Phil established a scholarship to recognize a student in the School of Physical Education for outstanding community volunteerism or philanthropy.  The school is grateful for the commitment of Phil Hardwick and others like him who share their gifts to benefit students and the school.
