Cadets in the IUPUI Military Science program achieve their degrees from other schools within the IUPUI system while simultaneously taking coursework that prepares them for careers in business and/or the military.
Courses offered by this department are designed to offer qualified students an opportunity to become a commissioned Army officer. The curriculum provides leadership training and experience which are not duplicated in other college courses.
Instruction encourages the development of resource-management skills, self-assurance, confidence, personal discipline, executive abilities, personal responsibility, professional ethics, physical stamina, bearing, and other fundamental qualities required of an Army officer. These same qualities enhance civilian careers, as well.
Recently, cadets participated in team-building exercises. Participants learn valuable lessons that are applicable to every day life, military or otherwise. Cadets are taught that to achieve success, they may need to give up control and rely on others. Says Cadet Manaday: “You can not always do everything yourself. Our team-building lab gives us practical examples of this.”
New Battalion Commander LTC Ken Duxbury is pleased at the way operations are running this year. Recently implemented mentoring programs and newsletters are in place, as well as several quality events, labs, and a solid physical training program.
