School Commemorates 100 Years in Indianapolis

Students return from Camp Brosius; Family camp entertains alumni and guests.

On September 29, 2007, more than 250 people attended the school’s recent 100-year anniversary celebration in the school’s former building, the Athenaeum.

Before the dinner, donors who contributed $100 or more to the school throughout this past year attended a VIP reception.   During the gala, Chancellor Bantz welcomed the crowd, which included former and current faculty, staff, and students, school donors,  and other school friends.  Event emcee Tracie Wells shared a proclamation from Indianapolis Mayor Bart Peterson, who declared the day “Physical Education and Tourism Management Day” in the city.  Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels also sent greetings to share with the crowd.

Following dinner, Dean Kellum honored Ted Pollock as the school’s 2007 Distinguished Alumnus.  Student speakers Joy Carter (TCEM) and Brittany Hicks (Physical Education) represented their respective departments by sharing their perspectives on current programming.  Afterwards, the IUPUI Moving Company performed two modern dances.  NCAA President Dr. Myles Brand delivered the event’s keynote address, and Dean Kellum reflected on the school’s past and future.  The gala concluded with dancing to entertainment provided by The Meatball Band.
