Last month, IUPUI bid farewell to two physical
education staff members as they left their positions for retirement.
Professor Mary Maitland Kimball and Dottie Ball, recorder/librarian

a ceremony on February 10, in the Athenaeum room of the Rathskeller.
Due to surgery on both knees in 1999, Kimball,

Kimball, a faculty member of 34 years, coordinated
the dance program in the physical education department. She
taught classes in the elective activity program such as ballet,
jazz, tap, modern, production, and an interdisciplinary “dance
in the allied arts” course. In the physical education
major program, she taught elementary and secondary dance methods.
In addition Kimball, directed the IUPUI Moving
Company, the campus dance troupe. The dancers performed for
a variety of community groups and schools, and held an annual
spring concern at the Madame Walker Theater.
According to Betty Jones, P.E.D., the department

Though she plans to continue working on national
standards for dance and the arts, Kimball wants to spend more
time concentrating on being a grandparent and wife. She plans
to enjoy a new home with her husband, Dave, on the South Carolina
coast.
After 14 years on campus, Ball will also
be heading for retirement.
“Ball was an outstanding employee,”
said P. Nicholas Kellum, Dean of the School of Physical Education.
“She was a total team player” According to Kellum,
Ball was notorious for her organization ever since she began
her position as recorder in February 1986.
Upon obtaining her B.S. from Greenville
College and her M.A. from Butler University, both in Library
