The School of Physical Education is pleased
to announce the addition of a new endowed scholarship program.
Mr. Bob Hagood has very generously established the Bob L.
Hagood Scholarship for the benefit of the Department of Tourism,
Conventions, and Event Management students. The scholarship
is for an incoming freshman who will be a TCEM major in the
school with a minimum high school grade point average of 2.5
on a 4.0 scale. The recipient needs to be working in the industry,
whether in hotels, tourism, restaurants or other hospitality
and tourism fields, with preference given to a minority student.
Mr. Hagood has been involved in the hospitality
industry for 28 years and felt that an endowed scholarship
was an opportunity to give back to his profession. With 19
years of service to Signature Inn, Inc., he is currently the
Director of Operations.
With Mr. Hagood’s philanthropy, we will
be able to attract promising future leaders in the industry.
We are grateful for this partnership that will benefit students
for generations to come.
TCEM DEPARTMENT "ON
THE MOVE"
By: Jim Bennett
Many changes have occurred within the TCEM
(formerly) RHIT Department within the past five years. Among
these changes are the incorporation of the department into
the School of Physical Education (HPER) and the approval to
award a four-year, baccalaureate degree.
One more major change is about to take place!
After being housed in the School of Engineering and Technology
for over twenty-years, the TCEM Department is moving to the
School of Physical Education lU-Natatorium building to join
it’s HPER colleagues. This long-anticipated move will
result in all programs within the school to be in one location.
The move is scheduled to take place towards the end of the
first summer session.

CAMP BROSIUS
By: Jim Bennett
Since 1995, students in the TCEM Department
have been required to take the L291 (lab) course in Food Production
Principles at Camp Brosius in Elkart Lake Wisconsin. This
course, offered during the first summer session, enables students
to prepare and serve meals to the School of Physical Education
students who are at the camp participating in leadership and
management activities as part of their degree program.
This year the camp experience will be different
from years past. Students taking the TCEM L291 course will
be in camp from May 17 through May 27. For the first time,
students taking the TCEM 306 and 310 courses will also be
required to attend the camp; TCEM 306 from May 22 through
May 27, and TCEM 310 from May27 through June 2. Further details
will be forthcoming!
Last year’s camp experience was rewarding
and fun, and we look forward to a similar time this summer!
