be Awarded
The 1995 RHIT Service Scholarship
Event on Sunday, November 5, at The University Place Hotel
was very successful netting more than $1000.00 for endowed
scholarships.
A $300.00 scholarship recipient
will be announced on Monday, November 20. Students applying
for the scholarship must have an overall G.P.A. of 2.3 or
greater and must have been a contributor to the Fund Raiser
dinner. In addition, demonstrated service to the department
through committee work and/or student organization participation
will be considered. Application forms are available from Pat
May and must be submitted by November 16.
The department would like
to thank the following dinner contributors: Beasley’s
Orchard, General Hotels, Hyatt Regency Hotel, Mr. D’s,
Pizza Hut of Fort Wayne, Inc., Something Different , The University
Place Hotel and especially our students, who sold tickets
and assisted with the dinner.
Academic Excellence Scholarship
Applications Available
The RHIT department’s
Academic Excellence Scholarship application forms are available
from Pat May with a submission date of November 16.
The $500.00 scholarship
will be awarded to a RHIT department major for spring, 1996.
To qualify for this award, the applicants must have an overall
G.P. A. of 2.8 or greater and submit a 2-3 page typed, double-spaced
paper discussing one issue related to the hospitality industry
and explain its potential effects on the industry References
must be documented.
Professor Emeritus Ray
Dault Honored by Michigan State University
Professor Emeritus, Raymond
Dault, Chairman of the RHTT Department at JUPUI from 1971
- 1987 was honored by his alma mater, Michigan State University,
(BA, 1950). On November 12, Professor Dault was named as a
Charter Honoree of the MSU-HRIM Alumni Association’s
Wall of Fame. Individuals recognized in the MSUHRIM Alumni
Association’s Wall of Fame are those leaders who have
made a major contribution to their companies/organizations,
as well as to the hospitality industry. The honoree’s
must be presently working in hospitality industry, academia,
or government, or be recently retired. Through the efforts
of these leaders, they must now have, or have had, a dramatic
positive impact to position MSU-HRIM as a leader in the hospitality
business education.
Ray is currently president
of the Speedway Chamber of Commerce and very active in the
Indiana Hotel Motel Association.
Distinguish
Yourself Through Aristos Xenia Tourismos

In 1989, a group of hospitality
educators identified a need to recognize non-baccalaureate
hospitality and tourism management students for outstanding
academic achievement, meritorious service, and demonstrated
professionalism. The end result was the establishment of the
Aristos Xenia Tourismos International Hospitality and Tourism
Honor Society (AXT).
The RHIT Department is in the process of
establishing an AXT chapter that will provide a variety of
professional, organizational, and educational benefits to
both is students and the industry.
To be eligible, students
must meet the following criteria:
a) They must have completed the 2nd semester
of their studies or 50% of total credits for graduation.
b) They must have completed 50% of the credit hours in their
major required for graduation.
c) They must be candidates for a hospitality or tourism-related
degree.
d) They must rank at or above a GPA of 3.0

Nomination open for ICVA’s ROSE Awards
Released by: Indianapolis Convention
and Visitors Association.
The Indianapolis Convention
and Visitors Association (ICVA) is now receiving nominations
for its fifth annual ROSE Awards, which honor excellent service
to visitors. Winners will be announced on Wednesday, January
24, 1996 at a banquet in the Sagamore Ballroom of the Indiana
Convention Center & RCA Dome. The awards program recognizes
employees who positively influence a visitor’s experience
in Indianapolis, either through one-on-one contact or behind-the-scenes
actions. These individuals help enhance the city’s reputation
as a hospitable site for meetings, conventions, trade shows,
group tours and pleasure travel ROSE is an acronmym that stands
for Recognition of Service Excellence. Nominations must be
received by November 17, according to Steven Rosenstock, chairman
of the nominations committee and general manager of the Omni
Severin Hotel. He said an official entry form must be used
and that testimonial letters may accompany the nomination.

ROSE Awards will be presented
in two categories - either for lifetime achievement or for
exceptional service in 1995.
Last year’s banquet
honored 58 nominees. A Lifetime Achievement Award was bestowed
upon Greg Eastling of the Embassy Suites - Downtown. Cited
for “extra mile” service in 1994 were Margaret
Buell (Ramada Hotel Airport), Craig Curless (Indy Connection
Limousines), Susan Regan (US Air), Stephanie Shelton (Westin
Hotel), Greg Tinsley (Adam’s Mark Hotel), and Blake
Tipps (Omni Indianapolis North Hotel).
One of the city’s
most important industries, tourism accounts for nearly 37,000
jobs in Indianapolis and creates more than $1.2 billion of
the local economy. Spending by visitors also produces nearly
$150 million in tax revenues for the state and city each year.
