Honors Day Convocation

   The Indiana University School of Physical Education Honors Day Convocation will be held on Sunday, April 23, 1995 at 1:00 p.m. in the auditorium of the National Institute for Fitness and Sport. Dean Kellum will send a letter to all majors inviting you to attend. Students who will be recognized include all scholarship recipients for 1994-95, all Dean’s list recipients for spring 1994 and fall 1994, and officers of the Restaurant Hotel Society. Please plan to attend this function to help recognize outstanding students in the department.

Scholarship Opportunity

   Brain Shapiro, grandnephew of Max M. Shapiro and owner of Shapiro’s Delicatessen, annually sponsors a scholarship to honor his uncle. The award for 1995-96 is $1000.00 and scholarship applications can be picked up from any faculty member or from Pat May. Applications are due by Thursday, March 9. All majors are invited to apply!

Departmental News

   Fall Registration: Fall/Summer schedules will be mailed to students’ home addresses;’ additional copies for review will be available in the RuT office. Students will enter their registration data directly into a computer either in one of the campus clusters, the RHIT office, or Cavanaugh 133. Walk thru registration no longer exists. IT IS IMPERATIVE that students know their PIN Number. If you do not remember your pin number, go to the Registrars’ Office, CA 133, with a picture ID before registration begins.

ALL STUDENDS ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO MEET WITH THEIR ADVISORS PRIOR TO REGISTRATION.

Grade Line: In December, 15,000 plus calls were received on the grade line and it will be enacted again in May. All grades are now mailed from Indianapolis speeding up their deliver.

Financial Aid: A phone inquiry system (278-FAST) is now in service to answer questions regarding loans, etc. Your PIN Number is required to access information.

Graduation: Graduation is Sunday, May 14. Invitations will be mailed April 1, by the Alumni Office.

Camp Brosius Update

   Plans continue for RHI 291/L291 experience at Camp Brosius in June. A reminder that check-in time is 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 4 and that departure will be after breakfast on Friday, June 9. RHIT faculty plans a brief information session on Tuesday, April 4 at 12:15 p.m. in the Food Lab for those students planning to go to Camp Brosius. As mentioned in the previous INFORMER, Dean Nick Kellum of the School of Physical Education will attend the first class session on May 10 with further updates and information. Linda Brothers is currently compiling a list of students who have expressed an interest in going; please let her know to add your name. Be sure to obtain authorization clearance from Pat May before registering for this class. Hope to see you on April 4 at 12:15!

RHI 492 Dinner Series

   The Advanced Food Service Management Class is presenting American Regional Cuisine theme dinners this semester at IVY TECH State College, One West 26th street, room 429, Vincent’s Restaurant. Free parking is available north of building. The dinners are on Thursday evenings. Dinner is served between 5:15 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and includes a choice of entree, soup, salad, bread, vegetable, starch, dessert and coffee or tea for $10.50 (tax included). Coupon books are still available, five meals for $45.00. Call Pat May at 274-2599 to make a reservation or purchase a coupon book.

The Second Annual Academic Excellence Fund Raiser

   An authentic Greek dinner will be used to entice area residents to a scholarship Fund Raiser sponsored by the department of Restaurant, Hotel, Institutional, and Tourism Management at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis. The March 26 event will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Greek Islands Restaurant, 906 South Meridian Street in Indianapolis. Greek salad, gyros, santorini potatoes, pasticchio and baklava will be on the menu. Cost for the dinner is $25.00. Proceeds from the dinner will be distributed to qualified students majoring in Restaurant, Hotel, Institutional and Tourism Management at IUPUI.

   Seating is limited and reservations should be made immediately by calling (317) 274-2599.
