Welcome to the Indiana University School of Physical Education and Tourism Management located on the Indiana University - Purdue University Indianapolis campus. Our location in downtown Indianapolis, Ind., provides proximity to numerous schools, wellness organizations, sport teams, and tourism efforts, and allows research, teaching, and learning to come alive and immediately make an impact.

This is a place where faculty impact students through numerous experiential and service learning experiences related to Exercise Science, Event Management, Sport Management, Teacher Education, and Tourism Management. Students interested in physical therapy or occupational therapy apply theory to improve health and well being in the Indianapolis community through partnerships with the George Washington Community School. Meanwhile, students interested in Tourism Management help assess how the many events which Indianapolis hosts enhance the quality of life for its residents.

This is a place where students learn from a faculty committed to teaching and learning, where student surveys regularly give our faculty high marks for both teaching and advising. Teaching is a long-standing part of our culture, dating back to our heritage as the oldest existing school for the preparation of physical education teachers in the United States. Our students have ready access to great faculty who take pride in seeing their students move on and become physical education teachers, physical therapists, sport team executives, meeting planners, event managers, and occupational therapists.

This is a place where faculty research which has an impact on practice. Our exercise science faculty conduct research focused on measuring the outcomes of exercise, as well as processes related to enhancing strength and movement. Tourism, Conventions, and Events Management faculty have ready-made laboratories in the numerous events which attract millions of out-of-town visitors to Indianapolis on an annual basis.
